misleading,

This review is from: Small Spaces (Small Book of Home Ideas) (Hardcover)
Lots of pretty pictures of spaces that are mostly larger than even the largest space in the new flat of the friend I bought this for. Perhaps I should have realised this from the photo on the front, which shows a much larger kitchen than 90% of us are fortunate to have.
Useless, especially when even some developers in London are coming up with clever ideas, like the spare bedroom where the guest bed turns into a dining table, so clever it was even demonstrated on TV a couple of years ago. So why is there nothing at all here about ideas like multiple uses of space?! The two stars are for the lovely spaces photographed, but the title of this book is misleading and in fact it doesn't really have any particular point to it. The closest I have come so far to an inspirational book on small spaces is "Compact Living" by Jane Graining. However, although about half the spaces shown are small, they are all architect designed spaces that would not adapt to the average flat - mezzanines, sleeping platforms, spiral staircases, light wells, glass roofs. Several kitchens in a cupboard are shown, as well as a very clever bespoke kitchen with units that can be rolled out to enlarge the space when using it and otherwise pushed close together to give more living room space. Everything is highly designed, high spec, and for the most part impossible for the average person to adapt. Instead, good, practical books with clever ideas include "Making the Most of Small Spaces" by Anoop Parikh and Conran's "How to Live in Small Spaces".

This is a photo book good for gathering ideas from the photos but short on practical suggestions.

One of a few good books for stimulating ideas on using small spaces efficiently and with style. Not as chockful of ideas as some other recent publications, but worthwhile.

Soon as I received my order, opened the box, took one look at it and IT TOOK MY BREATH AWAY! I had just begun enjoying another ID book but immediately put it down and began perusing this one. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!!! Finished reading/ogling the AMAZING photography in less than a week.
