Absolutely a must for both bandsmen and general readers didn't put it down until it was finished. Also for a really good charity that has little public knowledge till you know someone that has bone cancer

Barham and Fiona have really concocted a masterpiece here. As Baz notes in the introduction, there is certainly a niche in the market for this type of product. This book is to print what stories in the beer tent are to competition banter; a meticulously put together piece of the most hilarious stories from throughout the pipe band world. I haven't laughed out loud so much at a book since Roddy Doyle's 'Barrytown Trilogy', and I really can't pay it a higher compliment than that.

I hope that this book makes a good few bob for an excellent cause, but I also hope that it inspires a whole new generation to take a more light hearted look at the pipe band world in which we are all a part. In a time of increasing competitiveness and a 'profesionalisation' of the top sections of competition piping and drumming, it is important that we remember that our hobby is there to be enjoyed. That will certainly make for a thoroughly interesting sequel...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious insight into the Pipe band Family 7 Mar 2014

This Book is one of those that once you start reading you just cant put down, perhaps knowing many of the contributors helps, certainly knowing the reason behind its being written, and the person it being written for, being such a special person in my life, at first made me biased.
But once i started reading and actually laughing out loud at some of the stories, i read on till i was finished, an excellent read a must for anyone with even the slightest interest in pipe bands.

Very enjoyable stories from inside various pipe bands around the world. Pipers and drummers will get it, the rest will probably still be amused after a slunge in the bidet.

As a fellow piper, I can relate to these stories, and more. Great tales from comps, and life. Even those not familiar with the Piping and Drumming world can enjoy this book, as it deals with the fun side of practice, and competitions, not to mention giving us a look into the worlds of many of our peers.
