Amazon.co.uk Teacher Review
Slugs and Snails by Theresa Greenaway is an excellent information book. The book is very clearly laid out with excellent photographic illustrations and labelled diagrams. The contents page, index and clear headings make this a very good book for children to use to practise the skill of locating specific information.
All too often information books for children are too difficult. This is not the case with Slugs and Snails it is an ideal book for 7 - 9 year olds. As well as providing children with information about slugs and snails it also encourages children to develop their observation skills by lookin g at the different variety of slugs and snails that they have found. The book also suggests that children keep a record of things that they are learnt about slugs and snails, thus developing their re cording skills. These skills are all part of the science curriculum at school.
Towards the back of the book there is a page about finding out more which gives useful information a bout other books and videos on the same subject and also a topic web. There is also a glossary that will help to extend children's scientific vocabulary.
Slugs and Snails is part of the Minibeast Pets series and other titles in this series include Caterpillars ,Spiders , Worms.--Amanda York
Product Description
Describing life processes of slugs and snails through a hands-on approach this book shows how slugs and snails move; why they leave a slimy trail in their wake and the part they play in soil nutrition. It also looks at the species around the world, from the common garden slug to the European Great Gray whose courtship ritual consists of dangling mid-air on a rope of slime while mating. This book, is one of a series which gives simple instructions explaining how to find, indentify, collect and study specific minibeasts. It also shows how to make a home, feed and care for them, how to release them successfully back into the wild, how to keep observational records of daily lives and where to find out more.
