An astonsishing first novel, in the style of Roddy Doyle, concerning, Joxer, and the months leading up to his suicide attempt. brilliant because the character of Joxer is so well drawn; and he is such a complex person, but believeable, as he and his friends dabbles with drugs and drink, betting on 'sure winners,' to fund their habit. They are wnderful scenes with his girlfriend too, and all the supporting characters are amusing,and rounded. A little more editing and more careful structuring wouod have made this book even better.
