I have long been a fan of Sawday's books but have to confess that this is the first book I've read by Mike Bagshaw.
And what a treat it's been - written with wit and understanding of the area and its people.
As the daughter of a Yorkshire woman who trained at the same college as Bagshaw, I have long been familiar with many of the placenames, but it is a delightful book and a charming link to the ever reliable Sawday's B&Bs.

North Yorkshire is a magical place - and this beautifully written book takes you on a journey, introducing some of the joys it offers. The writing style is gentle but informative - certainly inviting, and the added dimension of selected places to stay from the Alastair Sawday collection is a wonderfully complementary bonus.
But this is a slow guide - take the time to enjoy the beauty of the sights, the environment and the people.

A detailed look at some great places in a fascinating and diverse county, well written and informative. A must have for holidays in the great County. Would be great if Mike could write something similar for Northumberland or the Lakes.
