Review

'Slow guides take time to point the way.' Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall 'This book, as much an armchair read as a practical guide, delves into fact and fiction with humour, affection and gusto' Let's Talk 'The Slow guides are the perfect travel companion – warm, witty and stuffed with insider knowledge. I can't think of a better way to unlock the joys of Britain.' Carl Honoré, author of In Praise of Slow 'This book is packed with beautiful pictures and information on Suffolk's history, walks and places to stay as well as all the practical details you need for an easy, relaxing break. The author lets the reader in on all the well-known sights as well as off-the-beaten-track secrets.' Food & Travel magazine

Product Description

Laurence Mitchell, long-time resident of Norfolk, invites travellers to the region to take a leisurely sojourn around both the well known sights and off-the-beaten track secrets in a personal tour that takes in the coast and villages, remote marshes, beaches, shingle banks, towns and cities of Norfolk and Suffolk. Conservation projects, boat trips, cycle and walking tours, wildlife and bird watching and distinctive vernacular architecture are just some of the attractions which Laurence describes in his distinctive voice, as well as all the practical details you need for an easy relaxing break. What's more, the unique accommodation descriptions from Alastair Sawday mean that you can be sure of a truly 'slow' visit.

Having just moved to Norfolk this guide is providing a really helpful introduction to the East of England. It's a great mix of information about places to visit, places to eat and where to buy quality food as well as finding about the best nature has to offer. There's also plenty of colour photos and a colour section on places to stay; which having stayed in a number of Sawday's recommended B&Bs will be the best the area has to offer. I loved the layout and the mixture of information and stories from locals. Overall thoroughly recommended if you want to get to know the area including the hidden corners.

This book - a new partnership between Alastair Sawday and the Bradt team - offers the reader a colourful, informative, relaxed guide to the nooks and crannies of Norfolk and Suffolk. The emphasis is on slow. This is a book like books used to be written. Curl up and absorb the magic that this part of the world and the slow way of thinking can bring.

i love east anglia, having grown up on the border between norfolk and suffolk. this is a great guide to the area for both newcomers and long term residents - i learnt a couple of facts about the village in which i spent my childhood which i was totally unaware of previously.
