This is a consistently high-energy album, with pretty much every track built around the electric combination of Carina's vocals and rock guitar sounds. The music here is most comparable to the opening tracks of her previous album, The Disconnection. The songs all feel very original and different from one another, but the album manages to maintain it's own distinct character when compared to her previous two albums, The First Blood Mystery and The Disconnection.
Where The Disconnection started you in one place and took you somewhere utterly different as the album came to a close (a good thing!), Slow Motion Addict starts and ends with songs that could have come from somewhere near Garbage's Version 2.0.
The jazzy acoustic arrangements of the first record have made way for a more developed, commercial and accessible sound (without the glossiness that PJ Harvey's 'Stories..' album may have arguably suffered). There is still a satisfying rawness and a heartfelt edge to much of the music, particularly in some of the later tracks like Slow Motion Addict and January Heart.
Carina's vocals are as good if not better than before, with plenty of thrilling Carina Round moments that quicken the senses - there may be none of the sparsely arranged tracks of previous albums, but she is still spellbinding.
The lyrics, whilst more accessible, are again very poetic, exploring similar themes such that anyone touched by her previous work (as I am) will enjoy this album a great deal. Buy this if you are at all interested. The depth of this music is simply incredible, with a ridiculous amount of replayability.
