5.0 out of 5 stars Original and beautiful 20 July 2002
Format:Hardcover
I think this book is really special. The story is funny and unusual, a clever idea that means thinking about why animals might behave in the way they do. Loris has a secret night life which explains his daytime exhaustion. I'd never heard of a slow Loris- it was nice to discover a new animal. The illustrations are wonderful, containing so much life and humour, and make you look again and again. The pictures of all the animals together are lovely, their body language and expressions are perfect. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing this illustrator's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the coolest children's book ever! 30 April 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
What could be better than the secret life of a lonely creature, drawn and written to perfection in Alexis Deacon's Slow Loris. Who then becomes the hippest-'cat' at the party!
My 4 year old nephew loved it too - the hats, the instruments and the slow- slow movement of Loris through the day.
Read it, also the others by Alexis Deacon. Fantastic!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! 9 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
This is a beautiful book: both the story and the illustrations are scrumptious, yet it isn't cutesy (something rare and refreshing in a children's picture book). This is an unusual book which has sold well by reputation and recomendation, rather than because it was marketed or promoted strongly - another rare quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars favourites 29 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
this is one of those books that stays a firm favorite and remembered through life. Fun for parents too which i'm sure makes the kids appreciate it all the more.

the story of slow loris is around an animal in the zoo that was so slow about everything he did in the daytime that everyone just thought he was boring.

But, as it unfolds, the slow loris was untouched as all the while he was brewing all kinds of plans for when the sun goes down...!

... a bit like the ugly duckling, it encourages children not to feel they have to keep up with their peers in order to be of appreciable value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and fun picture book 23 April 2008
By grr
Format:Paperback
Slow Loris is just pure fun.
Alexis Deacon's pictures are fantastic and different to your bog standard childrens books. They are truly original and not garish in the least. And Slow loris is mint! Fantastically realised, with his deep, dark eyes and little pink fingers. You really get feel for just how slow, the slow loris is. Just one simple motion spread over a series of images shows this perfectly. It even takes an hour to scratch his bottom! People think he is slow and boring, and so do all the other animals in the Zoo. But Slow Loris couldnt care less, because he has a secret..... And when his secret is revealed, the drawing showing it is just great! A complete change of pace and then it gets really funny. There is the old question, just what do zoo animals do when no-one is looking? Slow loris is found out, and everyone joins in the fun. Theres a little bit of "lift the flap" action too. This is very funny, and good enough to be enjoyed again and again! Read the other Alexis Deacon books too! So cool!

5.0 out of 5 stars slow loris! 27 Feb 2007
Format:Paperback
I read this book in one of my PGCE seminars. Can't remember why we were reading kids books but this one was fantastic! Im 23 but can relate to loris because of his inner party animal. Like me he plods along through his day but at night time he really comes alive. Kids will love it too if only for the toilet humour!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, highly recommend!! 14 Jan 2012

I absolutely fell in love with this book when I first read it. This book is about a lorris who sleeps all day so everyone who comes to visit him in the zoo thinks he is boring - but at night he wakes and is very, very fast! I read this to my year ones and they loved this story - good for when teaching about friendship - not to judge a book by it's cover. Brilliant illustrations also.

I was very disappointed with this book. There are no descriptions of anything slow loris does at night - just a repetition that he does "fast things". Read more
