Having been a huge fan of Carnivore back in the 80's, I sought this out on its release. I was instantly blown away. All the songs here are absolute masterpieces, and most will have you singing along in no time. Pete Steele seems like he had a lot to get off his chest as most of the songs are a bitter attack on maybe an ex-girlfriend or two. Opening track, Unsuccessfully Coping.. is a work of true genius and includes a power chord that sends shivers down my spine. All the songs are multi layered with different time changes and textures. Der Untermensch is an angry song about the inequalities of politics towards those that don't help themselves, a theme Steele had used previously on the song Public Assistance that features on Agnostic Front's Cause For Alarm. Xero Tolerance features a sample of what we believe to be a chap chopping up his ex girlfriend and her new man with a pick axe - its gruesome, and rather amusing - Indeed the lyrics to all the songs are superb. I often look back at my reviews and see that I've said this is in the top 5 of my collection - Well here's another one. Type O took a change of direction after this going all goth and moody, its a pity because Slow Deep and Hard was a refreshing CD not dissimilar to the System Of A Down debut. If you've got Bloody Kisses and October Rust et al, this may not be your cup of tea. Yeah, I think they're great, but only this would I give 5 stars too. "Take it easy."
