The new listener wishing to get into Anthony Phillips' music can find it difficult, mainly beacuse, with such a vast output, he surelly wouldn't know what to buy next. Ok, ' Slow Dance' is one of Phillips' top recordings. A two parts, nearly 50 minutes long composition wich can be described as 'very delicate orchestral music'. I guess the main comparison could be Mike Oldfield, but far more classical sounding. A good piece of music, very cleverly written. Although the main instruments are keyboards pretending to sound like and orchestra, the effect is correct, and there are even some 'real' instruments to complete the overall sound. The only drawback: As in Phillips' '1984' (by the way, ignore this one), the drum machine is very annoying, and slightly repetitive, specially in Part One.

This is an Anthony Phillips album like no other. Done at a time when he was wanting to attract the attention of TV and film companies, it contains some absolutely gorgeous themes - a couple of which are just so beautiful they stop me dead in my tracks every time I hear them. The majestic sweep of the piece is far more coherant than 'Tarka' and it manages to trigger a wonderful feeling of melancholy. I just wish he could reach a point in his life where he would be able to record a follow-up. I think that if you could get this, along with 'The Geese and the Ghost', 'New England' and 'Field Day', then you pretty much have the cream of Ant.

A great piece of music full of feeling and depth, admittedly some of the instruments sound a little basic. Perhaps it could do with a remastered version such as the the great way Mike OLdfield has been doing to some of his classic albums. Slow Dance is just full of moving, enchanting tunes which make you feel great. It's a shame it's taken me 21 years to finally buy it.
