The upsides of this book are that it has some very straight forward and well flavoured recipes over 348 pages, and that each recipe is accompanied by a full paged colour photograph which helps the reader to see how the completed dish ought to look. The book is well made with shiny pages.

The book begins with a four page introduction to slow cookers, which is helpful but assumes that you have purchased the book before you have purchased your slow cooker. If you already own a slow cooker the first page will be redundant.

The recipes are an interesting mixture including all sorts of styles and nationalities. Soups, for example, range from classics such as tomato and basil and cawl to carrot and ginger and rice soup with potato sticks. Meat main courses include several curries, pork goulash, hoisin pork, leg of lamb, steak and kidney stew and pork loin stuffed with orange and hazelnut rice.

The recipes are divided into Soups and Starters, Fish and Seafood, Meat, Poultry and Game, Vegetables and Vegetarian, and Desserts. These chapters are followed by an index. Rabbit is included under meat rather than game.

Recipes are usually for between 4 and 6 people. Each page has the ingredients along the top, the step by step receipe beneath and the picture on the opposite page. Some of the recipes are accompanied by serving suggestions (vegetabls, garnishes etc).

The recipes are interesting and the mix is good.

My main criticism of the book is that it is not always particularly geared towards slow cookers, or at least not for my way of using slow cookers. This book has lots of recipes which only require 30 or 40 minutes in the slow cooker. My idea of a slow cooker is that food should be heated slowly over several hours.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 14 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Most of the recipes involve a lot of preparation before the ingredients go into the slow cooker. For me a slow cooker is about a small amount of prep in the morning and a delicious meal when you get home.

I've got several slow cooker cook books, but this is the best, it uses everyday ingredients, of course, you need spices but that's not a problem, its everyday foods, you can make them into wonderful looking healthy meals
