I'm a little disappointed with this book. Having recently purchased a slow cooker I bought this based on the other reviews, and thought I was buying a book to help me cook tasty meals which would be ready when I got home from work. However, it seems to contain more "one pot" cooking recipes than ones for slow cookers.

They are not set out into recipes for slow cookers/one pot etc, and there are no pictures. Some of the slow cooker recipes need you to transfer between slow cooker and the hob and even the foreword mentions how fantastic the slow cooker is for making chutneys and preserves, yet most of the recipes at the back need to be done in a preserving pan.

If I was home all day or wanted inspiration for weekend cooking, there are some great recipes I'd try in here. Sadly not, and I wish I'd read a review like mine before buying this book, because I would have kept looking for one specifically for the slow cooker!

Upon receiving my copy of this book initially I was really pleased at the number of recipes that sounded really nice. Indeed, as is so often the case, cook books usually only contain a smattering of worthwhile recipes. But as time has gone on, and with each recipe I try, my opinion of the book has become increasingly negative. Chief among my complaints is the fact that all of the recipes I have tried thus far lack subtlety in terms of flavour, and generally beat your taste buds senseless - unless you significantly reduce the recommended amount of spices etc, or potentially remove it entirely from the list of ingredients altogether. In the case of the latter, for example, this evening I prepared `Slow cook beef and Ale stew with Herb dumplings' which, among the various ingredients, included caraway seeds. Concerned that 1 tsp of caraway would prove a little strong, I reduced this amount by more than half. 8 hours later in the slow cooker, and despite using some excellent beef, a great tasting artisan ale, and following the rest of the instructions provided to the letter, what we ended up with was caraway flavoured beef, caraway flavoured parsnip, caraway flavoured carrot, caraway flavoured leek, and caraway flavoured gravy which nearly overpowered the herb dumplings. Ironically, if I had used the recommended amount of mixed herbs for said dumplings, these too would have been overpowered by the taste of mixed herbs, and would have been unpalatable. As it goes, having used half the amount suggested, these were the only part of the meal I and my wife could stomach. Similarly, the Chicken and sun-dried tomato casserole was much the same (which I have now adjusted accordingly), as was the beef and cranberry casserole which contained way, way too much allspice (I had to reduce this by 3/4 to get a flavour that enhanced the food, and not ruined it). With this in mind I would therefore suggest that if you feel inclined to purchase this book, do be extremely wary of the quantities of spices, herbs, and seasoning suggested. Otherwise, like me, you may find yourself throwing away an awful lot of good food which has been spoiled. Therefore in my humble opinion the author would do well to revise these recipes if they are to prove as 'delicious' and as 'mouthwatering' as the marketing suggests. Such a shame for a book that had real promise, but instead assaults the taste buds.

Clear, easy recipes that work! Tasty, nutritious and minimal washing up. The index is laid out in such a way that if I was looking for a curry, all of them are listed together ie. Chicken and Vegetable. Very useful section on buying a slow cooker. This book is one of my favourites because to slow cook is a great way to feed my family cheaply without losing quality.

I bought this book as entitled "Slow Cook Fast Food" and slow cooker is mentioned prominently in the write-up - this is misleading as there are MANY recipes that are not for the slow cooker at all, i.e. 24 recipes in the chicken section and only seven to cook in a slow-cooker! Having said that, there are many recipes that look really good, tasty and practical so I AM keeping the book and expect to use it quite a bit!

Great cookbook full of quick, easy but very flavoursome recipes. The mushroom stroganoff has far more flavour than Jamie's! Comes highly recommended to those who don't wish to spend hours in the kitchen each night.

This will be the only book you need to create healthy quick meals.

The receipes are healthy and tasty and easy to prepare, gives you time to do all the other important things in life. TOO SHORT TO BE IN THE KITCHEN.
