Sliver stands for Sliver Heights a tall elegant apartment building where people mysteriously die, it is here that quiet and lonely book editor Carly Norris (Sharon Stone) rents a flat and meets the charming and persuasive Zeke Hawkins (William Baldwin) and tries to evade the attentions of failing author Jack Landsford (Tom Berenger).
An unseen menace lurks in the tranquil building, and a comprehensive surveillance system watches everything.
This was Stone's follow on film to "Basic Instinct" and fortunately she and Baldwin have excellent chemistry both dramatically and in the steamy erotic elements of the plot.
In the nature of the drama it cannot plumb the depths of the fascination of the voyeur being able to watch every aspect of other peoples lives. However the film does explore in a limited way the transformation taking place in the ordinary Carly Norris suddenly able to sit for hours spying on her neighbours, and that turns a small part of this thriller into an intriguing psychological drama.
Direction, acting and script make the most of a film that is a must for Sharon Stone fans.
