Product Description

Product Description

Callum Hughes has been labelled a killer and a psycho. He has been labelled by the press, by his classmates and most of all by the family of the boy he stabbed. Roger Gough has been labelled a victim. He is described by everyone that the police question as a sporty, funny and popular boy who was brutally murdered by Callum. At least, that's what his friends and family are saying. But things are rarely so black and white. The coroner, Martha Gunn, a widow who is also dealing with her son moving out of the family home to attend a football academy, understands the pain of loss and the importance of justice for the dead. When Callum is found dead in his cell just two days after his arrest, it is accepted that he simply could not cope with his new environment and killed himself. Was such a timid and intelligent boy really capable of motiveless murder? Indeed, was he really capable of taking his own life? Martha dares to dig a little bit deeper, unravelling a truth that is far more disturbing and distressing than anything the papers could have made up. She is determined to solve the mystery and reveal the truth behind the destroyed lives of two very different boys. This title is a deeply fascinating and unsettling read from the skilled pen of Priscilla Masters.

I have read everything I can lay my hands on that Priscilla Masters has written. Martha Gunn stories are my favourite but I have thoroughly enjoyed all her books which can be hard to track down! I am longing for the day that something new comes out in any of the series Ms Masters has written!

2.0 out of 5 stars across the pond, 18 Jun 2011
By Auntie Annie - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Slip Knot (Martha Gunn) (Hardcover)
I bought this book because it sounded, from reviews, like just the type of book I enjoy. I read several other British mystery series. I had problems with this book because it used a number of terms with which I am unfamiliar--British colloquialisms. In addition, I found her writing style to be rather dry. I finally gave up about three-quarters of the way through the book. I found I just didn't care enough about how it ended to make it worth my time. Perhaps, if I had been raised in England . . .
