Product Description

Featuring light entertainment legend Bruce Forsyth in his only sitcom role, Slinger's Day charts the trials and tribulations of the beleaguered manager of a London supermarket. This hilarious Thames series boasts scripts by veteran comedy writers Brian Cooke and Vince Powell, Sorry creators Ian Davidson and Peter Vincent, and novelist Alex Shearer. This set contains both series.

Environmental protesters, a shoplifting epidemic, a burgeoning butter mountain and largely incompetent staff are just a few of the problems facing Cecil Slinger, the new manager of Supafare. And just how is he supposed to offload 560 packets of Jacobson's Savoury Fishcakes when no-one wants to buy them? Slinger has to concede that the public doesn't respond to lying, cheating and deception any more. Whatever happened to the old values?

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent comedy from the mid 80s 18 Dec 2012
By Mikey TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Slinger's Day is a comedy consisting of twelve episodes produced by Thames Television for ITV from 1985. The series is suitable for all members of the family and proves what a talent Bruce Forsyth has in this, his only sitcom role.
Leonard Rossiter previously appeared in the preceding Thames series Tripper's Day and sadly the series had to be cancelled due to his passing.
With a good supporting cast, Slinger's Day is worth a watch. Look out for Andrew Paul, a young actor who four years later would start a role lasting over a decade as PC Dave Quinnan in the Thames police series The Bill. Paul's debut with the Bill will feature on the next boxset of that series.
Sit back and enjoy the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been... 18 April 2012

Format:DVD
A long time coming and is at last to be released on DVD.

I remember this as light hearted but very funny series and Bruce Forsythe highly entertaining as the mad-cap supermarket manager whose staff are always being chased around by Slinger keeping them in line.

Good to see more of these slightly obscure sitcoms from the golden era of T.V finding a rightful place on DVD.

Good on Network!

1.0 out of 5 stars Slinger's Off 1 July 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's a bit knuckle dragging at first. It's a continuing show from Tripper's Day after the passing away of Leonard Rossiter. Bruce Forsyth takes over the lead role and does a fair job of it.From the absurd customers to the impossible and brain damaged workers.A light hearted sitcom surrounding the every day drag of a grocery store and the UT·most importance of an education.I would not buy the set again, the show just (In my Opinion)Is just not that good.
