Amazing - and enjoyable too!, 1 Aug 2002
It's NOT a diet or exercise regime or even a program to use for a certain period - the idea is you eat sensibly (ie no need for ultra low-cal yuk), but forever. It starts from the idea that the only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. For most of us, the problem is that all the willpower in the world eventually collapses in the face of temptation. So, the only way to succeed long term is to change what you want by analysing and understanding the subconscious beliefs etc that lead to the unwanted behaviour. Rather than focusing obsessively on food (counting calories etc) and feeling guilty when you "fail", you discard your old approach and find other aspects of life to focus on and gain pleasure from. It's all very positive, guilt-free and interesting (if you like analysing yourself, that is).The only (minor) difficulty I had was making the time to study it often enough to stick with it; the eating less and eating healthier has been spectacularly easy and painless. I don't think this introspective approach would be to everyone's taste, but for those for whom it is, I can't praise it enough. The bottom line is that I lost 5 stone in 9 months (very steadily - no yo-yoing), have started exercising (something I always thought I hated), feel fantastic and I don't even feel I'm denying myself anything, because I truly don't want the same sort or quantity of food I used to.

I too used the book in conjunction tapes, and, to be honest, can't imagine using the book alone. Still, you can get the book+tape pack from the fromwithin website itself (it's a co, uk one). It's NOT a diet or exercise regime or even a program to use for a certain period - the idea is you eat sensibly (ie no need for ultra low-cal yuk), but forever. This is the key to losing weight successfully - try it!, 2 Mar 2002

(N.B.I originally bought a copy of this book of the same name, which came with 4 cassettes. I am working on the assumption that this is the same book minus the tapes.) This is the only time in over 40 years where eating healthily and losing weight has been a pain-free and enjoyable experience. This book makes no mention of food or dieting, but focuses entirely on your sub-conscious reasons for being overweight in the first place. This is a book which you work with regularly, not just read once and forget all about it. Written exercises make the reader more self-aware, and help you to realise for yourself why you, as an individual, may be using food as a substitute for, possibly, many other emotions. It stresses that the body tries to follow what the mind believes and, if you sub-consciously don't feel that you deserve to be slim, for whatever reason, your body will try to mirror whatever is in your mind. The book aims to help you to alter your beliefs to positive images and thoughts for your body to respond to. I have been working through this book for 6 weeks now, and have lost 16lbs so far without any conscious effort on my part to do so, and my confidence is also increasing. I would recommend this book to anybody who has ever dieted, and failed, in the past.
