Book Description

6 Sep 2010
The story of Slim the Ogre, in the land of Ogg, is that of a young ogre in search of a diet. He's supposed to eat human meat, like all the other ogres - grilled, fried, boiled, on toast, in a sandwich - but he has a problem. Slim doesn't like the taste of human meat (and who can blame him?!). His parents think he should get a grip and eat what's good for him but they send him to the doctor's just in case, again. Dr Roeg has an original answer for Slim on this visit. Instead of telling him he must eat a balanced diet of human meat and human bones, he suggests Slim help organise a food festival; 'Human food or Humans for Food' so he can discover the world of the human diet and the best that ogre chefs have to offer. Slim takes up the challenge in the hope of eating pizza. Will he succeed in pulling off the social culinary event of the year? Will he find his diet? Find out in this fun story based on the story builder software of the same name published where children are helped to write their own stories that can then be professionally printed in a book. Full of imaginative ideas and wonderful illustrations Slim will brighten your day and make you smile and laugh whether you are 6 or 80.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and educational 26 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a lovely book, full of humour and with wonderful illustrations. Slim hates eating meat so he can't eat humans like the other ogres and everyone is worried about him. He helps to organise a food festival with the aim of introducing new foods to both humans and ogres and invites famous ogre and human chefs with names like Ogan Rancid and Veggie Blisstor...Even though this is for children (I work with 7 to 11 year olds) it really made me giggle. The ogre food, for example, is disgusting and hilarious - brain gazpacho with crunchy teeth or worm spaghetti - children love this sort of thing. But the story is also educational and teaches children about healthy eating, about being adventurous with food and also about getting along with others. Things that the children in my life certainly ought to learn! I thoroughly recommend this book and hope that there will be more to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ogrely Brilliant 7 Nov 2010
By Penny
Format:Paperback
This book will have both children and adults alike laughing from the first paragraph. Disgustingly original, the humour continues throughout, featuring ghastly recipes and colourful characters such as Chef Floot Bloomingfart and Nikly Poover whose speciality culinery delights live up to their namesakes!

Its a delightful, fun story with fantastic illustrations and an educational twist. Slim's world is also about healthy eating, following rules and acceptance of others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids and adults! 10 Dec 2010
By PWJP
Format:Paperback
My 8-year old granddaughter came to stay and took great delight in showing me this book, reading her favourite extracts out loud and giggling hysterically. So naturally I wanted to read it myself in full - it's a page turner! Just the right blend of seriousness and mischief for everyone to enjoy.
