Product Description

The Slik Sprint Mini II GM Tripod is a flyweight class tripod specifically configured for travel concerns meant for use with very small SLR systems or with any form of point and shoot camera. It has 20mm diameter upper leg segments and is specialized for those who value compact folded dimensions and low weight above all other tripod concerns; you'll need to stoop down a bit to use it or otherwise have a rotating/flip-out LCD screen (or right angle finder for your SLR). This is a tripod right at home on a backpack or on your shoulder (unpadded case with shoulder strap included) weighing only 1.72 lbs (780g). The Sprint series was designed to maximize your propensity to actually carry and use your tripod on vacation without costing a ton. It can be raised and lowered quickly and will help make sharp images in the typical daylight conditions a traveller 'on holiday' is expected to encounter. This particular version of the Sprint series has Slik's SBH100DQ compact ballhead with quick release for the photographer preferring speed in setup. Speed Release Lock levers allow for fast set up 3-Position leg locks allow for leg openings of independent angles Angled rubber leg tips maximize traction to flat hard surfaces (and also allow carry on to aircraft) Foam covered upper leg sections ease handling in extreme weather conditions Compact ballhead with diminutive quick release plate Detachable 2-part centre column and independent leg spread allows great minimum operating height Maximum upper leg diameter of 20mm

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Travel Tripod 16 July 2009
Slik Tripod........what a great Tripod, compact, lightweight and it will take a DSLR with 70-300mm lense and cokin P series filter system all within the allowable tripod weight baring.

Very versitile, so pleased with it. You can also buy different heads for the tripod.

No complaints here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for heavy cameras 20 Nov 2009

I bought this based on the above review, but I have to disagree - this will take a lightweight SLR with a long lense if you keep it upright - as soon as you angle the camera downwards, or upwards the ball head is not able to take the weight and slips. Send this back and bought a Manfrotto Modo instead - does not have the nice rubber leg covers but feels lighter and is certainly more robust when extended - plus the head can take a big camera.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good travel tripod except for ballhead 30 July 2013
I bought this tripod for use when hiking and it is fine for this application. It doesn't extend very high, but this is an expected trade-off for a travel tripod. It's mainly been used with a D3100 & 18-105mm lens and I found it to be adequately stable, especially after adding a hook to the centre column for attaching a weight. I also appreciated the variable locking angles of the legs and reversible column which makes the tripod ideal for photographing alpine plants. My only disappointment was that the quick release plate is quite small and doesn't inspire confidence. After a few months, the plate's locking mechanism developed a lot of play, so I no longer trusted it to hold the camera. I was unable to replace the QR plate with an arca-swiss type because the SBH-100DQ head does not use a standard 1/4" or 3/8" thread to screw into a QR plate. I replaced the complete head with a Horusbennu ballhead and now the tripod is much better. It will now also adequately support my D90 & 70-300mm VR lens.
It's a pity that the tripod isn't available as just a set of legs without the flimsy ballhead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and strong 12 Sep 2009

Great tripod, small, light and surprisingly sturdy. It's worth noting that it also comes with a carry case.

Also, because it's not immediately obvious, I'd like to point out to potential buyers that if you loosen the locking nut you can raise the centre column to give you extra height.

The only (very minor) criticsm is that there is no hook at the bottom of the centre column to hang anything off (to weigh it down). I shall improvise however!

Other than that it's smashing!

I have used this tripod several times, I can mount it on the side of my camera sling pack and so I take it every where. Functions as advertised!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slik Sprint Mini GM Tripod 23 Jan 2013

I already have a big heavy tripod and a little mini desktop one. Having bought a bridge Lumix FZ200 I wanted a tripod I could carry in my rucksac and support the 24x zoom lens. Still experimenting, but so far it's compact, versatile, light and reasonably steady. It is an ideal travel/walking tripod and I am very pleased with it.
