Great Album 26 Dec 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is a great album. Listened to it again today and went straight to buy her latest release, the only one I don't have yet. I was surprised nobody had reviewed this yet. It's a super album. The melodies are catching and winning, but what penetrates are the lyrics and the phrasing. This woman can really sing. She knows how to express heartache and love better than just about anyone I know. Don't miss this.

What is Lynn Miles Like? 25 Sep 2000
By Scott Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can hear a little Shawn Colvin wistful in her. Her musical style can be folky, or Carrie Newcomer country. Her voice might edge toward Jann Arden, but less metallic. You can hear gentle reverence for Joni Mitchell when she sings the phrase "for free" in Loneliness. I Knew it Was Love is both dirge rock, and a minor echo of Diamonds and Rust.

You can fall in love with these songs. Like Joni Mitchell they are so nakedly lived, honestly rendered, an invasion of privacy unless we resonate with them, embarrassing if not. This might be another man's junk, but it is my treasure.

A gorgeous and compelling gem. 1 April 2003
By pedxing - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a remarkable CD. The songs range from lovely to stunning, the words are elegant, the music well crafted. Lynn Miles sings beautifully - often wistful and mournful, at times shimmering and inspiring. Her voice is both earthy and mysterious.

This is the finest of her three American releases. There are stunning songs on the other two albums, "Night in a Strange Town" and "Unravel." While "Night" has more studio polish, and "Unravel" is far more daring and varied in its arrangements, the songs and the singing in "Slightly Haunted" shine through with the kind of elegance that can make you fall in love with a singer, a song, an album. Some of the songs here are so perfectly realized that they seem simple, natural and almost timeless.

This is not the album for you if you don't like sad songs. I don't know of anyone who has better conveyed the aching awareness that love is dying, the enduring wrestle with the power of loneliness, the waning of warmth and daylight as a long Canadian winter moves in, or the sheer exuberant miracle of survival.

My advice is to get this CD. If you like it, find a chance to see her. She generally plays in small venues and its a wonderful treat to see a performer of her talent, humor and presence up close and at a small fraction of the price of a heavily promoted concert. You can find listings for her and many others at places like Musi-cal.com. Then, if you are intrigued by some of her other songs, consider buying a CD at the concert. Chances are she'll be there to sign them, the support will mean a lot to her as it does to many singer-songwriters who are unfairly ignored.

One of my all time favorites (but darn hard to find) 20 Mar 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
First heard Lynn last summer in the NC mountains and quickly slurped up the CD. It was a long time before I listened to anything else as I was held in a trance by Slightly Haunted. She is the most eloquent folk singer I have ever heard and I find myslef listening to her again and again. Finally found another CD (thanks amazon).
