4.0 out of 5 stars Had missed this was only a picture book! 7 Nov 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
My mistake for ordering this, as had missed that it is only a 'picture' book. The other David Walliams books are loved by by eldest son (8), and hoped that this was the latest for him. This has arrived, and my youngest son (4) is delighted that he can now read David Walliams books too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely colourful book 10 Dec 2013
By Lavinia
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this for a three year old, and was not disappointed. The graphics are excellent and the story is enough to capture a child's mind long enough while you are reading the book to them. It also has large words that the children themselves can learn to read as you go along.
Well written by David Walliams, I will be looking out for more of his books..
I would also buy this as a humorous gift for an adult who has not read the small print on a document. You have to read the book to know what I mean, as I do not want to give away the plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly annoying book 18 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I think David Walliams writes great books for older children. He's not afraid to tackle tricky subjects, and he does so deftly and with great humour. I don't think he understands the younger market as well, though, and, despite the excellent illustrations, this book is a disappointment. The trouble is, the elephant is horrible. It's just not very funny... the little boy is all on his own, and, at the end, stuck with him. My 5 year son old found it vaguely unsettling, and my class of 4/5 year olds didn't like it either. The whole idea of adoption certificates went a bit over their heads, and when he broke the bike, I thought they might cry. Just not really suitable for its target audience imo. Buy 'Poo Bum' or 'Oh No George' instead, and save David Walliams for your older children.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful Story 1 Jun 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I had high hopes for this book by it turned out to be a big waste of money. Story is neither clever nor funny. My six year old could have made up a better story than this.

Very good for kids aged 9-12
I don't think that it would be very good for kids aged 5-8 as they wouldn't understand it properly.

1.0 out of 5 stars The slightly annoying elephant
I thought that this was a long story, like all of david Williams' other books but it was just a short baby story. I also think that the story itself wasn't very good either. Read more

After purchasing all the David Walliams novels for our son, we thought this would be a great book for our 4 year old. Have to admit, we read it once, and she wasn't taken by it. Read more
