I bought a resonator guitar, then I needed to get into alternative tunings and open keys, learn how to waggle that piece of glass or metal up the frets without making scratchy sounds and learn to play the blues.Well from Amazon I got this book/CD,money very well spent, very well taught very clear and at a pace you can easily keep up with or go over and over until you've got it right. The best thing is you very quickly start making sounds that sound like they should if you follow closely the directions given. The CD shows you what it should sound like and develops gently challenging you until you see clearly just how you've improved from chapter 1.It includes tuning(vitally important this) how to hold a bottlenesk slide, how to avoid those scratchy sounds
and see how it develops as you work at it.Like any guide you need to work at it daily, practise and it works.I teach guitar as well and if all tutors were this clear, this well laid out and developed technique this clearly for regular tuned guitar playing my job would be a lot easier.
Highly recommended for any or everyone exploring slide guitar techniques and getting into playing quickly.

I was up and running within ten minutes of reading this book. Fred really gets to the gist of things so quickly without unnecessary theorising that I can not imagine any other book beating this.

I have been playing for years and made more progress in the first half hour of trying out the exercises than in the five years prior.

I got hold of Black Ice by AC/DC and can easily understand what Angus is at when he switches to slide guitar(amazing, who would have thought Angus would use slide after all these years!!).

Thank you Fred!!

simply excellent 28 Oct 2011

Having played guitar for years, but never taking the time to learn slide, I bought this book as a complete beginner to this style of music.

It is cleverly written and teaches you small licks (about 30 seconds long) that you can play along to with the cd provided. These licks show you different ways to manipulate blues scales, and before you know it you can improvise up and down the fretboard without the need to spend countless hours learning scales . I have been so impressed by the way this book is written I have ordered a number of other fretboard roadmap books.

Certainly a great addition for any self taught guitarists library!
