I'm writing this review because there doesn't yet appear to be any feedback that's focussed on actually reviewing the controller itself & not the Slendertone System as a whole.
I bought this item so that I could operate the arm pads, bc the latter are supplied without one.
I've given 3 stars bc I don't think it's perfect & in my case appears to have some serious shortfalls. Having unpacked the product & read the instructions fully, I plugged it in (using the adapter for the UK) & started charging the NiMh battery which is contained in the unit. The instructions stated that I should unplug it when fully charged (3 battery segments in the display) & a full charge would take 2 to 3 hours.
Well - 4 hours later (with a constant supply) - it still wasn't fully charged, yet when it was unplugged it showed 3 bars. Then, having used it for only 3 sessions (introductory ones lasting only 15 minutes), the battery was down to a single bar & I tried to charge again, with the same issue.
Of course, it's possible that I've got a faulty or fake unit (although I doubt it's the latter as it was purchased through Amazon), but until things improve whether with a replacement control unit or "bedding in" of the battery, this is all I can say about this.
A short comment about how it works in use, would be that the display is easy to see even though it's composed solely of black lines/symbols on a grey background. The up/down arrows work well & the beep is useful as opposed to annoying. I found the length of the lead the right sort of length (not so long as to get in the way or so short that it's a pain) & it fits nicely in your hand when in use.
Fingers crossed that mine will improve in performance - if anything changes, this review will be updated at a later date.
UPDATE - 31st Jan 2012
The fiddly connection between the controller and the pads (whichever ones you're using) is not fitting together as sweetly as it did when first purchased (less than a month ago) so not too good there.
Although the controller is lasting longer than it was, it stays on a 1/3rd of battery power way longer than a 1/3rd of the time so I'm constantly concerned that it'll need charging half-way through a session.
It would have been much better to have a controller which utilises AA rechargeables, so we could have a spare set on hand if need be. Also, given that it's a NiMh battery and memory effect could be an issue, some way to fully discharge the battery would have been a positive thing (leaving it on doesn't work because unless the pads are in good contact with your body, an error message shows).
Personally, I'd downgrade the controller (not the system - please understand the distinction) to 2 stars for the faults discussed above.

Nice looking central unit. Base to any garments you buy. Battery lasts many sessions. Easy to use.
Ensure you buy a genuine controller as I purchased from a 3rd party seller on Amazon and after problems I called Slendertone and it turned out to be a fake. So for me I'd only ever buy Slendertone stuff direct from Amazon. I've purchased the arms and ab belt to go with this and they are both fantastic to keep the muscle tone up and both have actually built extra muscle which I didn't expect. Would recommend.

Mother in law bought this to work the upper arm slender tone. she noticed a difference in 4 weeks.

Slendertone
highly adaptable to all slendertone products - mine is part of my daily routine whilst applying make up! definite toning enhancer to regular exercise.

WOW it really DOES WORK, i love this product. its got lots of functions on it, but it would be a better product if you could put your own music on it so that you wont get bored.
