Stick this on and you'll think you're listening to Bob Wills! It's all there - twin guitars, twin fiddles, vocal interjections from the band leader, and a swinging western sound. At the time these recordings were made (1950-53), the band were actually referred to as "blatant Wills-alikes" but 60 years on, who cares?! It's a great sound.

Floyd 'Ole' Rasmussen is described in the booklet as "a Swede from Nebraska", and he's credited on the recordings as a guitarist but it seems that this was mostly a prop, and his vocals are described as 'dreary'. Oh dear! It all seems an impossible case but he's gathered a great band around him and the end result is first class. So, yes, it's all very similar to that classic Bob Wills sound - the featured vocalist on most of the recordings, Teddy Wills, even manages to evoke the spirit of the great Tommy Duncan - though it doesn't stray into the more jazzy sound as Wills output often did.

This excellent Bear Family release features everything the band recorded, a mix of originals and popular songs of the time. There's much to enjoy: there's not really a dud track here but if I had to pick just a couple I'd go for the vocal "Did The Man In The Moon Come From Texas" and the instrumental "Spanish Polka", both originals.

If you like the music produced by Bob Wills or Spade Cooley, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this collection.
