I read Sleeper years ago when a comic fanboy friend of mine lent it to me. From the first chapter I was hooked!
An original premise of a secret agent trapped within an enemy organisation and having to play the baddie to survive and complete his mission, makes for some interesting situations. The main character begins to think he must be one of the bad guys and considers his fellow criminals as friends and lovers.
Throw in some cool superpowers, a crime noir look and feel and some of the best secondary characters ever (Genocide Jones, Miss Misery) and you've got a true work of art.
In my opinion this is better than Brubaker and Phillips 'Criminal' series - which are excellent in their own right - and deserves to be read by crime fans, superhero fans and anyone with a passing interest in modern comics.

This is a fantastic comic book, the characters are very well crafted and unlike a lot of things I've read recently I found myself genuinely caring what happened to them. The story is an excellent noir-style thriller with the main character Holden becoming more paranoid & confused while all the time trying to hide these emotions from his peers in Tao's organisation and try to figure out how he's going to get out of the situation he finds himself in.
I don't really want to say too much but I would highly reccomend both this and the follow up (vol 2), easily the best comics I have read in a long time.....although you may want to shop around as they seem to be REALLY expensive on here !
