Product Description

Product Description

Daisy is the new girl at school. She is finding her feet with a new group of friends and has become part of the 'alphabet club' - A for Amy, B for Bella, C for Chloe, D for Daisy and E for Emily. As each one celebrates her birthday, they have a sleepover party to which they invite the rest of the gang. Most of the girls are friendly, except for bossy, stuck-up Chloe, with her snide bullying tactics. Having Chloe as a friend is hard work, but having her as an enemy would be far worse. With her own turn to play host fast approaching, Daisy is desperate to have a sleepover. But she is faced with a dilemma - if she does, she'll have to let her new friends meet her older sister, who is mentally and physically disabled. How will they react, and will they still want to be friends with her? A moving story for younger readers about friendship and insecurity, read by Susannah Harker. Jacqueline Wilson has sold over 20 million books in the UK and has been awarded an OBE for services to literacy in schools. Among her many awards are the Smarties Prize, the Guardian Children's Fiction Award and Blue Peter's People's Choice Award.

I liked to listen to this book very much as I like all the J Wilson books that I have read or listened to so far.
J Wilson seems to have great insight into children's worlds and concerns and I have often found I could understand 'little people' a bit better after I had read a book like that.
This book deals with children's confidence and also addresses the theme 'bullying'.
The listener learns that the person who is a bad bully and 'show off' at the beginning of the book is actually a very weak bedwetting insecure girl when it comes to a sleepover at the narrator's home.
My 10 year old liked it although she wanted to give it only 3 stars as she found it a little bit boring in parts. I would give it 5 stars, hence I will now give it 4 stars altogether.

7yr old enjoys this 17 Jan 2012
By Anon
Format:Audio CD
My 7 year old girl does like listening to this story because of the interaction between the characters. She is interested in telling me about which character is afraid of saying what to whom and why. She is concerned with which character is nice and what makes them not nice as a friend. I think this is a good tool for parents to help their little ones understand school girl interaction a bit better.
