I really have only one complaint about this book so I'll just get that out of the way before I start: Fade-to-black sex scenes... Not cool, Shayne. Not cool. I had to sit with my eyes squeezed shut and use my imagination for a bit. Way to make me work for it. Sheesh...

But since that's the only thing I didn't like, I guess I can forgive you. The rewards were a gripping and cleverly written mystery, a slow-forming but deliciously complex romance, some fantastic, high-octane creepy scenes, a touch of paranormal, a smart-arsed protagonist (seriously, I have a total Girl Crush on Rachel), all finished up to a satisfying conclusion, though with some breadcrumbs left to lead us on to the next book.

Rachel de Luca has been blind since age 12. That hasn't stopped her writing a plethora of self-help books, however, all aimed at better living, thinking positive, being upbeat and perky... HA! Rachel was hilarious. She has this sugary-sweet public persona that she flips on whenever she's, well, in public, but in reality, around her close friends, she's the snarkiest, most acerbic, totally un-PC but completely fabulous character ever. She really made this book something special for me. With murders, emotional traumas and grief going on all around her, her tenacity and strength showed in the fact that she never lost that spunk. And the book was better for it. All good books need light and shade; Rachel was the light in SLEEP WITH THE LIGHTS ON.

Detective Mason Brown is brought into Rachel's orbit when he accidentally runs her over outside the police station, where she'd just reported her bother missing. Oops! Shortly after, his own brother dies and he decides to donate his organs.

i don't do book reviews but I had to with this one. It is a fantastic read and I could not put this book down, reading it into the early hours and only putting it down because i had to sleep !! the characters are so believable and you get right into them and the female lead at first gets to you and you think she is rather annoying but as the book goes on she gets under your skin and you start to really admire her. I read the Gingerbread man by this author and that also was an excellent book but this one is outstanding. Please read this book, at .99p it's a bargin. The only downside is it's a 3 month wait for the sequel .

Fantastic story line and believable. Gripping plot that had me wanting more page after page. Not the ending expected. Now have to wait 3 months for the follow-up :-(

I can't fault anything about this book!!

Well...I can...but it's more personal than any kind of dig at the author (who did a wonderful job!) and that's when Rachel and Mason finally got it on! I'd just got through reading an erotica and my need for filth was high up there!!! After all the build up I really wanted something from that!!! But I get that the genre of this novel isn't about the filth and the feeding my perverted imagination!

So, to the main reason I am here.
This book was fantastic! I loved the MC, she was absolutely perfect in her role. And so what if she swore a bit, I think it suited her character down to a T! Some people aren't keen on swearing, and that's fine, but there was nothing out of place about the language in this book, it fitted with the story extremely well.
As I said, I adore Rachel De Luca's character, she had me laughing my socks off with her behaviour and attitude, I can totally relate to her because I am exactly the same as she is!!!
Mason was fab. I instantly liked him and had a vivid image of him in my head that even I woulda've succumbed to, so bravo, Rachel!! *High five*.

The story itself was unique. I've read stories of visions of killings, etc. But Maggie put her own spin on this and really made it work! I got through reading it and immediately jumped to the second in the series (currently on the third now!) but I will leave those reviews for where they are intended :)

Enjoyable if far fetched plot. Disliked the constant use of the F word. It was totally unnecessary and shows ignorance to me. Used by an apparently intelligent heroine it was annoying but she regained my respect when she adopted the blind dog Myrtle!!

4 1/2 STARS

The first book in the romantic suspense Brown and de Luca series is an intriguing and mesmerizing read. Rachel de Luca is a successful self help author despite being blind and she can’t believe her good fortune when she’s granted new life with a cornea transplant, but her new eyes prove to be too good to be true when she starts having terrifying visions of brutal murders. Detective Mason Brown is trying to atone for his recently deceased brothers horrific secret in helping Rachel find her missing brother but then he learns of the shocking connection to his brother and he suddenly has to do everything in his power to her from a predator who is still hunting from the grave.

This steady pace plot keeps the reader in spine tingling suspense throughout the story with each new chilling development in the case of several missing young men. The tension builds throughout as the danger escalates and there is lots of surprising twists that keep the reader on their toes. The characters are strong, compelling and easily related to, grabbing the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The romance slowly builds throughout the story with a little bit of sex that sizzles with passion, but the romance between Mason and Rachel is just beginning and has a long way to go. The author brings the characters to life with vibrant intensity making it easy for the reader to get caught up in their story. But the main focus that really draws the reader in is the fascinating but horrifying concept that could be supernatural in origin and really gets the reader wondering what if.

Overall I really enjoyed this riveting story and couldn’t put it down once I started it. There were a couple of small instances that seemed out of sync, but they were easily ignored and of course I really have to read the next book to find out what happens next and what going on with Rachel and Mason.
