i bought this book prior to my emigrating to Australia and for the price was not expecting such a well illustrated work, well what a pleasant surprise i got with all plates being very well drawn and easy to use. The book is a good size for field use. My father is a wildlife photographer & has informed me that he also has this book but an earlier edition. Excellent book all round and very well priced.

Bought this book as a gift for my father who is travelling to Australia. He is really pleased with the illustrations and information provided, as he is a keen birdwatcher. The only downside is that it is quite a heavy book for a traveller.

I am an experienced UK birdwatcher and was very surprised with the quality of this volume having suffered with other publications when travelling abroad. Very well illustrated with good distribution maps with solid key information. It is a good field guide with an excellent visual index for quick species location. The pages are good quality and will wear well by the look and feel of it. I am bound to drop it in the sea at Bondi or Manly, so I will see how it copes with that!.

I took this to Australia on both trips. An excellent book, never saw a bird which wasn't in the book (unlike some bird books). Easy to use and find your way around. Nice plastic cover which keeps it clean and uncrease.
Recommend.

Very comprehensive. Excellent guide. The sort of book to help identify, and giving good assesment and knowledge for each species.
One fault, it is quite heavy in a pocket.

I have a number of Field Guides and this is one of the very easiest to use. It helped me identify most of the birds I saw in Oz.

Brought this to take on a tour of Australia and it was a perfect companion. Easy to identify the 100+ different species we saw. There are a few niggles with the index - not all birds are indexed. One page is duplicated in the book, and not on consecutive pages, so it's irritating. But still a five star purchase!
