Book Description

Jason Campbell thought he could relax - until the villain he sent to jail reached out from inside and fingered him ...

Product Description

The day Jason Campbell bought his first pair of cowboy boots was the day his life changed for ever. For a start, there was someone who actually mattered at one of his gigs - who liked his songs, and his singing, and wanted him to be the support act when bigtime country singer Calista Shaw did her UK tour. He'd put himself back together after getting mixed up in the Phil Gator business (Frankie Bosser Comes Home), when he'd been inadvertently instrumental in getting Gator sent down for a very long time indeed. So when Teddy Peppers gets out of jail and turns up in Jason's neighbourhood, it's seriously bad news. Because Peppers has been given a job to do, and it involves doing Jason a great deal of damage ... One of Britain's brightest young crime novelists returns with a sequel to Frankie Bosser Comes Home, which combines the lives of smalltime desperation of the earlier book with a revealing glimpse of life on the road in the lower reaches of show business.

1.0 out of 5 stars Read and regret, 28 Feb 2006
By

This review is from: Slaphead Chameleon (Paperback)
Hobbling in the same bloodied footsteps as "Frankie Bosser Comes Home", this book serves up yet another lethal dose of storytelling hell for the truly sado-masochistic.

The highly transparent characters and a very limp-wristed plot were combined with dialogue so awkward that it makes the reader cringe.

I guess this goes to show that publishers allow just about anyone to write books these days.

Slaphead. Indeed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter drivel!, 8 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Slaphead Chameleon (Paperback)
How anybody can percieve this piece of utter drivel to be "brilliant" - or anything even remotely close - is way beyond me. Despite my best efforts to suspend my disbelief, the characters remain dull and uninspiring, and the one prevailing thought this book inspired throught was solely how full of himself the author is. If you bought this book, I strongly suggest you ask for your money back - plus a fee for time wasted if you actually read the piece of poo. Not to mention mental anguish.

To sum up: One for the dustbin. I wouldn't even suggest giving it away, as that would mean inflicting it on some poor unsuspecting and innocent soul. And that would constitute cruel and unusual punishment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slaphead Chameleon, 17 May 2005
This review is from: Slaphead Chameleon (Paperback)
This is a brilliant follow up to 'Smalltime' and 'Frankie Bosser Comes Home'. From the absurd dark humour of Jerry Raine comes this suburban UK thriller. We are reunited with the smalltime criminals that that tough cop, Morgan is set on catching.

This story deals with the real life issues of strict gun laws, unarmed police officers and is set over a country music industry back drop.

Guitar teaching, Jason, is again unwillingly drawn into the hilarious antics of the cowboy boot wearing criminals in his London suburb.

This is a necessary commentary on British law enforcement and a necessary comedy about guitar teachers and thugs who wear cowboy boots.
