5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, 7 Mar 2007

(REAL NAME)
Me and my sister watched this film last night and we were virtually wetting ourselves with laughter! Jane McGregor is very funny in the role of the main charcter Starla; a high school queen bee, who takes on a French exchange student which is where her problems begin as Genevieve begins to steal all aspects of Starla's life. Piper Perabo puts on a superb French accent in her portrayal of Genevieve and both actresses steal the limelight in this great sleepover movie. Anyone who loves stereotypical high school movies will love this film!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Fresh, 28 Jun 2009
By Dismal Angel "Ash" (Scotland) - See all my reviews

Starla Grady, a stereotypical teenaged Texan beauty pageant contestant, is ambitious, determined, and slightly coniving; and her offer to be host to a French exchange student doesn't certainly do anything to hurt her popularity - at first.

Natural beauty Genevieve LePlouff arrives in Texus to live with the Grady family in their fabulous house. With a sweet shy nature, a somewhat bubbling clumsiness and naivte, Genevieve's personality is in total contrast with Starla's obvious, exciteable over-made up, bleach blonde cheerleader persona.

However, little by little, things begin to steadily go wrong for Starla at school - it seems that everything Starla wants, Genevieve seems to be able to wangle her way into getting for herself. Starla begins to realise that Genevieve may NOT be the person she seemed to be, and that behind the pretty and shy seeming persona, there's a calculating deceptive girl who's seemingly hellbent on having everything Starla does.

Not quite the hilarious film I'd been told it was, but I'd admit that it's not overly predictable and there's a few surprising laughs that make it watchable. Definately a teen film, but I did enjoy it all the same.
