Krafty Kuts is truly a master on the decks with this contemporary look of hip hop, beats, breaks and funk. This album magnificently sums up the greatness of the Big Beat scene with this wizard cutting up the tunes with such raw elegance. A great mix album for whatever the occasion whether it is chillin with your pals, cruising the streets or throwing some crazy legs on the D-Floor. Its what you need. Far superior to the second, 'Slam the breaks on Two', the album holds the originality and adrenalin rather than falling onto no mands land and even, dare I say it, garage, with the latter. The track selection is floorless and leaves you truly on a natural serotonin buzz. The way the album flows from one track to another with such fluid hybridity really does want to whoop out loud. The best funky break-beat album at the moment. Get It!

Due to a light fingered colleague I lost my copies of slam the breaks on volume 1 & 2, so pleased to now have them again. Back to the old school.

essential listening for any breakbeat fan! 17 Nov. 2003
By "born_slippy" - Published on Amazon.com

I can't say enough about this album! so few people seem to have heard it yet i can (tentatively) say it's the best hip hop/breaks compilation i've ever heard. for those who know the slam the breaks on format, disc 1 is all hip hop featuring J5 (concrete schoolyard - great track!), mixmaster mike, krafty kuts, de la soul. but for me (as a big breaks fan) disc 2 alone is reason enough to buy this album. basically (and in true krafty style) it's a big fat funky mix-up that showcases all the sounds that made breaks so popular in the late 90s. lots of the familiar breakbeat classics such as flint's 'everybody's funkin' and 2 in da bush's 'the lick' (the two tracks that put the fingerlickin label on the map), fatboy slim's ever-popular 'soul surfing', and the super-funky 'badder badder schwing' by freddy fresh and captain funk's 'twist and shout'. but the best thing was all the tracks i hadn't heard before--and they're all good! krafty's mixing it smooth as usual but add this to a killer track selection and you've got by far his best compo to date. sweet!
Classic Old Skool Breaks 1 Dec. 2007
By KT - Published on Amazon.com

The is album was produced in 1999, and since then Krafty Kuts have released many great albums, but this is the ultimate breaks compilation. It has a smooth but strong scratchin mix that flows beautifully from track to track. I always prefer the firsy album in these series and this is no exception. Highlights are the funky Candyman, Chicken In A Box and Space Raiders Disko Doctor. There must be so many Krafty Kuts fans out there who have not heard this, i only got it a few months ago after yaers of searching. Do whatever you can to get it. I get chills listenin to it and want all Kuts fans to have it. Cannot wait to see them at the Big Day Out in Aus next Jan. This is what every breaks album wants to be!
