Product Description

The highly-acclaimed Skymax-127 Maksutov-Cassegrain OTA excels for high-power Lunar and Planetary observations, double-star observations, as well as being suitable for terrestrial daytime observations. The Skymax-127 features a compact but extremely powerful, high-contrast, high-resolution diffraction-limited optical system. High-transmission multi-coatings are employed on all optical surfaces for optimum performance. The new SupaTrakTM Auto-Tracking Alt-Azimuth Mount is a heavier-duty version of the standard Auto-Tracking mount, designed to carry heavier OTA's. This mounting, with its built-in dual-axis multi-speed Servo motors is ideal for both Astronomical & Terrestrial use. In Astronomical mode, after following the simple set-up procedure, the mount is capable of tracking astronomical objects automatically. The fully motorised mount is convenient, practical, lightweight and easy to set-up and is ideal for both beginners and experienced users alike. Overall this is a sizzling telescope package offering a truly phenomenal, ground-breaking combination of quality, performance and value for money.

I purchased this scope elsewhere and can confirm most of what is said in the product description on this scope. However, it is not suitable for terestrial viewing unless you buy an erecting eyepiece as the image will be upside down.
Also the mount described in the Product Description is the Supatrack auto tracking mount and NOT the one advertised and illustrated at the top of the page which is the Synscan GoTo mount. So there appears to be a contradiction in the advertising at this time.
The Supatrack Auto Tracking version is usually about £80 cheaper and I say again, is NOT the GoTo mount. Therefore a phone call to the supplier to confirm which one you are getting would be in order IMO.

The scope itself is of excellent quality and gives impressively good views of the moon and the larger planets.
It is also a capable scope for viewing many deep sky objects (DSOs) such as 'open' and 'globular' star clusters, galaxies and nebulas. It is also good for viewing double stars such as Mizar, Alberio and others.

If you live in a heavily light poluted area you won't see as many DSOs but there is still plenty to see. I live in a town where I can only see the andromeda galaxy with a pair of binoculars most of the year but I have seen numerous other DSOs with this scope including the Ring Nebula and the Cateye nebula. These are faint but discernable. So from a truly dark site this scope is capable of a lot more.

As with most scopes this scope will benefit from additional eyepieces (EPs). I can recommend a good quality low power EP such as 32-40mm. I also have a 16.8mm orthoscopic EP which gives 89x magnification and also works well with the 2x deluxe barlow supplied with this scope giving 178x magnification which is equivalent to using an 8.4mm EP.

This scope is my first and I'm more than pleased with it, easy to set up and use. The goto allignment worked everytime with the 2 star option and everything I needed to get started was in the box (except 8 aa batteries) which as stated by other reviews it will chomp its way through.

As mentioned elsewhere, buy yourself some more eyepieces once you get more familiar with it and an AC power adapter such as this one which I bought (plugs directly in with no aditional adapters needed)

My only critisism is the instruction manual, but that doesn't affect the scope optics. 10 minutes searching youtube and you'll find some how to videos which are much more usefull.

Telescope is very good. You need a little time to start using that telescope properly. Be aware - you need clear space (no houses or structures) to watch sky and you need to know biggest stars on the sky to align telescope.
