Biography

Cypress Hill has long represented the will of the people. The Los Angeles-based trio of rappers B-Real and Sen Dog and producer DJ Muggs provided distinctive insight into the harsh realities of ghetto life, championed marijuana before it became fashionable and made it acceptable for rappers to use Spanish in their rhymes. Given its visionary bent, it makes sense that the group wanted to call its… Read more in Amazon's Cypress Hill Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Cypress Hill adopt the modus operandi of a secret society of bong-hitting hedonists intent on scrambling brains like eggs on drugs (or something like that) on an album that sees the return to top form. Now something of an institution, the group consolidate their largely white audience of metal kids, with a record that effortlessly mines the sport metal/hip-hop crossover on "Rock Superstar" (courtesy of Sen Dog who sneaks back on board with his funk metal group in tow). Think Puffy's skip hop rip of "Kashmir", but with head-banging balls. Rock theatrics aside, Muggs' hip-hop production is as edgy as ever. Check the chilling threat of "Cuban Necktie" which pulls out strings that tether the listener like a lariat. "Rap Superstar" is no-punches-pulled expose of the shady side of the music business. A tale of backstabbers, dollar bills and a healthy dose of paranoia narrated documentary style by Eminem and Noreaga. The high life goes helter skelter. --Chris Campion

This is a great album with a brilliant blend of Hip-Hop & Rock. The Hip-Hop side of things, The Skulls disc, isn't as good as Black Sunday or Cypress Hill but the Bones disc is unbeatable. Although the raps are still good, the beats aren't at their best. "Cuban Necktie" and "We Live This Shit" are the best on the Skulls disc and "Stank Ass Hoe" is amusing but the others aren't as good as previous records. The Bones disc makes it a 5 star album though. The 6 rock/metal tracks are brilliant B-Real & Sen Dog make very convincing metallers with each having a solo track, B-Real's "Get Out Of My Head" and Sen Dog's "A Man", Sen Dogs other band SX-10 provide excellent guitars with a guest appearance by Rage Against The Machine's Brad Wilk on drums for "Can't Get The Best Of Me". "(Rock)Superstar" probably beats "(Rap)Superstar" with Sen Dog getting a turn on this version. This is a must buy for any Hip-Hop or Rock fan and especially for any Cypress Hill fan. If you like this try out any Rage Against The Machine album and Cypress Hill - Live At The Fillmore.

This is a good double album with some amazing tracks. The rap CD is good old Hill at its best a little bit older a little bit wiser and adding a new fresh sound to the hills beats. The Rock/Metal album just blows you away with proper hardcore rock music that will satisfy any metal head Even my mate Chris likes it and he hats all rap music. So buy it and then buy black sunday the pair cover the hill perfectly

right then a double album where the two discs reflect the different styles that the guys want to play. good idea but does it work? well um yes very well you dont get the mixture and variety vibe like you did on iv but instead you get to shake your ass to top drawer hip hop on the skull disc and bang your head to metal on the bones disc. the best bit is the sheer fact that it seems like the boys are showing off by doing hip hop thats as good as ever and then teaching the nu-metal boys a lesson by writing hip hop/metal songs that easily outstrip the childish fumblings of limp bizkit and linkin park. bizkit and park wish they had a song half as good as rock superstar and the sister song rap superstar leaves the gangsta competition looking like chumps too. mission achieved guys you rock in every sense of the word.
