Product Description

Feature-length film spin-off of the Australian hit TV series 'Skippy the Bush Kangaroo', starring all the regular TV cast. When Matt Hammond, Head Ranger in the holiday paradise of Mallacoota, is approached by two divers for permission to search for abalone off the coast of the Waratah National Park, Flight Ranger Jerry King becomes suspicious. He is certain there is no abalone in Waratah, and, when he sees the divers' large cruiser, he is convinced that they are not fishermen. It turns out that he is right: they have been hired to find a wreck and illegally salvage the cargo...

5.0 out of 5 stars Skippy leaps into action! 29 Sep 2007
By Luke73
Format:DVD
I haven't seen this movie since the early 1970s. And surprisingly it's just as thrilling as it was then!

This spin-off from midway of the classic 2nd season of the TV Series stars all the regular cast. It's more like a feature length episode but with a terrific edge to it. In some scenes of the film you forget it's a childrens adventure and goes into some serious thrilling drama especially towards the conclusion of the film.

As for the DVD itself the picture quality is surprisingly sharp and vibrant and could have been made today! Unlike the TV series 'Skippy and The Intruders' was made on 35mm film and the TV Series on 16mm. The picture is in full-frame and no picture is lost. For the Cinema release it was matted out to present a widescreen ratio.

The Sound is very very interesting for a 1969 film: It was made in 2 track stereo, though a bit crude, dialogue is heard on the left, where as incidental music and other sound effects are displayed on both channels. However it is not electronically process stereo, but true stereo sound!

The DVD cover is wonderful.

The DVD has also got 2 extras: a 25 min 'Skippy's playground' made for Australian TV and a full length TV episode called 'The Long way Home' hence the DVD time- 146 mins.

If you are a fan of the nostalgic TV show, you will love this movie.
Highly recommended.
