Product Description

All eight episodes from the fifth series of the teen comedy drama following the chaotic lives and loves of a group of hard-partying college students. In this series, autumn term has begun at Roundview, and a new set of sixth-formers are introduced. Prissy queen-bee Mini (Freya Mavor) is instantly determined to make the life of oddball Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) a living hell. After enlisting her friends Liv and Grace (Laya Lewis and Jessica Sula), and boyfriend Nick (Sean Teale) to launch a smear campaign against her, Mini is less than impressed when Grace jumps ship and sticks up for the new girl. The priapic Alo (Will Merrick) is only interested in girls, while his best friend Rich (Alexander Arnold) is too into his 'heavy metal' exterior to lower himself to 'mainstream' chicks. The episodes comprise: 'Franky', 'Rich', 'Mini', 'Liv', 'Nick', 'Alo', 'Grace' and 'Everyone'.

Synopsis

Channel 4's critically-acclaimed drama SKINS enters its fifth series following the angst-ridden lives of its teenage characters, as they grapple with adolescence. This series introduces the third generation of sixth formers; a once again, eclectic mix of characters. Dakota Blue Richards (THE GOLDEN COMPASS) stars as Franky, who automatically sets herself up as an outsider when she joins the school three weeks late. As Mini, Liv and Grace do their best to both help and hinder her settling in period, we also meet the new boys Alo, Rich, Nick, and Matty. Expect plenty more bitching, backstabbing, and general angst-ridden behaviour in this, the complete fifth series.

Special features include:
  • Audio commentaries
  • Behind the scenes featurette

But on closer reflection it seems that some fun has finally been injected back into the series i found the last two skins series rather dour and all to serious and the cast never worked as an ensemble but rather as individual sects of the same whole. So okay series five at times did feel a little over the top and did try desperately at first to be like the original cast but as time wore on the characters were allowed to breathe and the stories shine and actually the cast worked here as an ensemble with everyone taking into consideration their differences and being adult enough to accept them and move on and the final was actually a finale for once rather than effy feeling depressed and acting weepy in the corner. So all in all it may not be skins of old but it is definitely more fun and vibrant than the last two series which required a prescription for Prozac and therapy after each episode.

Characters are not as enticing as in previous seasons. There is less "under the skin" tension. It seems to me to be a little more forced and therefore less gripping. For example i find Mini too "gossip girl" and stereotyped. I also find it difficult to believe the Frankie character: she is too stylish and her background as a bullied student seems artificial. However, it is a fascinating series and i am glad they continued with additional seasons.

I loved every series of Skins, this one is the only series that left me a positive energy and joy after the final episode. All characters evolve and change for the better, soundtrack is at its best, as photography and direction. A general dissatisfaction might depend on the fact that a new generation starts for the second time and it's always a bit difficult for some nostalgics of the previous characters.

I must say I am completely eating my words! This is the second review I have left for this, and I am proud to say I am wrong! I did not like the beginning of this series, at all! However we are now nearing the end of this series and it really has vastly improved. The acting has got better and the writing is back on top form, still the worst series when it comes to Skins but a still a very good series!

Ok so its not as good as the previous seasons but i think once season 6 comes out i'll love the characters. The music is amazing!! Cant wait for season 6!!! Also one more thing, there are only 8 episodes, which definately is not long enough. I gave it 4 stars cause u cant beat series 3-4!

I recently ordered series 5 and 6 from this seller and in both sets the first and second DVDs work absolutely fine, but the third DVD in each set does not work, it won't even load. I am very annoyed because now I can't watch the end of either season. not happy.

Lets review the difference between Generation 1, 2 & 3 shall we. Generation 1&2 spend their whole life on drugs, which they seemingly have endless money to pay for. In series 4, Emily moved out of her house and lived with Naomi whose mother was where? Where'd they get the money to live together? In series 2, Tony went to a uni open day where there was a weird girl who knew everything about him and was not relevant to anything.
There were elements of series 1-4 which were so unbelievable that it was just escapism. Ask yourself how many 16-18 year olds live that way. Then compare it to this season. Apart from [SPOILERS] rich and Grace's 'wedding' which I have yet to see which will go ahead anyway, its been farrrrrr more realistic. so what if Franky looks like a boy, or Mini is a typical bitch, these stereotypes do exist. As for the people hating on Rich, I find him and Alo the most realistic people in it. I have met people like Rich who think their music is so elite and amazing and refuse to accept anything else. Watch more than one episode and keep an open mind. Its a lot more down to earth than previous series and in my opinion, this makes it a hell of a lot better.
