3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad 10 Sep 2012
By Monvb
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The box contains two books, the first one "skinny bitch" which I found very interesting, talks about the influence of a plant based diet on a healthy life, among other benefits of this lifestyle.
It's very instructive and easy to read due to the everyday language in which is written.

I did not like the second book wich is "Skinny bitch in the Kitch". The recipes are all American junk food,(which I personally don't like) For people living in Europe is impossible to cook any of the recipes in this book, specially because we don't have any of the vegan alternative ingredients in the recipes.

I'm not saying that the recipes are not good, they probably are. But I think they are targeted to a specific culture and are not very practical and easy to make.

So if you live outside the US, I recommend buying only the first book "Skinny Bitch" and additionally buy some vegan cookbook a little more focused on international or macrobiotic diet.

2.0 out of 5 stars Basically a vegan rant 29 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
No wonder these women are so skinny - they don't eat anything! Basically a very political vegan rant against all consumption of animal products dressed up as an exciting, new way to lose weight and beautifully packaged. Feel like I've wasted my money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Giving It To You Straight 31 July 2008
By V. Simmons - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Initially, I thought I didn't want to read all the cursing, etc. However, I appreciate the direct and frank tone the authors gave me about being obese, feeling sorry for myself and eating foods that are literally killing me! I am following their advice and as a result, I have become a vegan. I feel 100% better, I have more energy and I look forward to being a "skinny bitch" in a good way! Sometimes, it takes someone like these authors to give you the truth without making it sound "cute and pretty". I need to hear the TRUTH without the fluff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I read it! 4 Oct 2008

I read a lot of reviews before I picked up this book. A lot of people complained at the manner in which it was written. I am not easily offended, so I found this book a lot of fun to read because of it's straight up honesty. I felt it was very motivating to make changes in my life.

I've made a few of the recipes in the cookbook. And the food is delicious. I could eat that club sandwich for lunch everyday and not get bored with it. It's amazing the difference you feel when you start reading ingredients and choosing such healthy food.

And to those who say that these women are basically making you starve yourself with this food...I have to disagree 100%. The food is delicious and good for you. It still has calories you need, just less fat calories that you don't. And most of this food is cholesterol free.

Needless to say. This book has made me change the way I look at food, and I feel a lot better for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Set! 17 Aug 2008
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I loved the Skinny Bitch book, after I read it. I wanted to try Skinny Bitch in the Kitch. So far I tried the Potato Scamble and thought it was great! I love that these books come together as they compliment each other very well, and that they are hardcover as they will last longer.
Skinny Bitch has changed my life. It has helped me become aware of the things I put into my body, how food is processed, etc. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, for the fact that some things may or may not be true, just as anything may be. Use your own judgement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not the best "cook" book. 17 July 2008
By T. Grady - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I liked all of the information and the sassy style in which it is wriiten, but I would have liked there to be more recipes that didn't contain so much soy, (I am allergic) I don't think that going dairy free means going soy crazy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done 30 Sep 2008
By Lowrie Anne Ward - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book is a great answer to the problem of connecting veganism to modern day, trendy, youth culture.

It's not too hippie-ish or off the main stream like you often find with some veg cook books. It's hip, no holds barred, and easy to read. Young women won't even necessarily realize they're eating sans cruelty - they'll just think they're having fun reading and cooking yummy, healthy food.

The potato & pumpkin curry is to die for!
