The Skinner’s family have been milling at Stradbroke in Suffolk since 1688
Today we make a range of excellent foods for all working dogs, whatever their age or condition.
Much has changed since it all began, the mill has long since gone to be replaced by the very latest state-of-the-art equipment, but the same family passion still continues today.
Our Field & Trial range has been developing since the early 1970s when it all began with just two products. As our reputation grew and customers demanded different diets to suit the needs of their working dogs, so the range has expanded.
There are currently 11 products in the range covering every stage in a working dog's life, from whelping bitches and puppies to hard working dogs, resting dogs and those older ones that still like a bit of exercise, but might not be as keen as they once were.
High performance diets for working dogs, whatever their life-stage, breed or condition.
Field & Trial diets for puppies and young working dogs
There's nothing more important than getting your working puppies off to a good start. In their first few months, puppies need all the right nutrients to develop strong bones and teeth, making sure they grow into healthy, hard-working adults.
Field & Trial Puppy is specifically formulated to meet all the nutritional requirements of working puppies during these first, most crucial stages of development. We recommend feeding this diet up to nine months old.
Field & Trial Junior is a natural link between the puppy and adult stage. It is chicken based and ideal for dogs from six to 18 months, dependent on breed.
Field & Trial diets for adult working and extra hard-working dogs
Field & Trial Working 23 and Superior diets are strong favourites in the professional working dog community. If your dogs are working hard all day they will need the right blend of protein, oils, vitamins and minerals for the sustained stamina needed out in the field.
The beef in Working 23 provides high levels of protein for strong muscles with calcium and phosphorous for strong teeth and bones.
Particularly popular with owners of racing Huskies, Field & Trial Superior meets the needs of all breeds of extra hard-working dogs, providing all the energy and stamina needed for those long days in the field.
Because Superior is wheat gluten free, we also recommend it for bitches in whelp and throughout lactation.
Field and Trial diets for the closed season and retirement
All working dogs need a break and the high performance diets that provide that all important stamina during the season need replacing with an appropriate maintenance diet during quieter periods.
Field & Trial Maintenance Plus is specially formulated to meet the typical needs of working dogs during the closed season. It contains all the goodness of chicken with cereals, oils and vitamins, but with a lower level of protein to suit a lighter workload.
At some point in their lives, as they approach old age, working dogs will be ready for a bit less work. Our Maintenance Plus diet has also been formulated to benefit these older dogs. Chicken and cereal based, it also includes a Joint Aid supplement which supports joint health and mobility, helping them get the most out of their senior years.

I can, and normally do, buy it from two retailers within 10 miles of home but it is always good to know that it is available quickly from Amazon if I can't get out.
Yes, it is a first class food at a very reasonable price compared to most on the market. The best that I have found.
We had been feeding her on another dog food that she really enjoyed, but we wanted to change to something different because it had some rubbish artificial additives in it. After reading some reviews we decided to try Skinners as it was recommended as a good quality dog food in general and doesn't have artificial additives. So we've been weaning her off the other food and onto this one.
She's certainly happy with the Field and Trial Maintenance Dry Mix but we decided to give another Skinners food, the Skinners Ruff and Ready Dry Mix 15 kg, a try as well to give a bit more taste variety (the Maintenance food is uniformly sized pellets). Our dog was immediately interested in this new food as well and for the last few days it's been going down very well! It looks like a more interesting dry food as there are plenty of different shapes and textures in it.
She's currently eating Ruff and Ready mixed with Maintenance and I'm sure she would recommend them both if she could talk!
