More About the Author

Liz Earle MBE is the best-selling author of more than thirty books on a wide range of beauty, health and wellbeing topics. Her early works in the 1980s focused on the importance of nutrition for wellbeing, being some of the first to promote the importance of antioxidants and plant oils in our diet. In 1991, Liz hosted the first network programme on beauty and wellbeing, Beautywise, on BBC1, before moving on to become a familiar face on daytime television with Liz Earle's Lifestyle, on the ITV Network. In 1995 she co-founded the multi award-winning Liz Earle Beauty Co., where she remains a consultant. She recently launched a new online venture, Liz Earle Wellbeing, and continues to be a regular contributor to television and radio on a range of food and wellbeing issues. A tireless campaigner for ethical sourcing and provenance, Liz is an ambassador for The Sustainable Food Trust and the Soil Association. Her work with The Prince's Trust and other charitable organisations led her to found LiveTwice, a charity providing opportunity for the disadvantaged in the UK and overseas. She was awarded an honorary doctorate by Portsmouth University in 2010. Liz Earle lives on an organic farm in the West Country with her film-maker husband and five children.

5.0 out of 5 stars WYSIWYG 13 Mar 2009

What you see is what you get with Liz Earle, she knows about skin and this book does not disappoint. It's not just another beauty book, but a complete manual about skin - everyone's skin: how it functions, explanations of what can cause problems, as well as how to make sure it behaves its best. Liz has always backed up her message with serious research and her reputation for integrity is fully endorsed in this book. It's easily digested, attractive to read, and full of sound information and advice. I'd say it was a must-have for all women (and men!), no matter what their skin type. Hmmm, Mothers' Day coming up....

5.0 out of 5 stars The Super Secret to Great Skin! 3 April 2009
This book is the best beauty book I have ever come across. The book is beautifully illustrated, with many pictures and illustrations on every page. It is the only 'beauty' book I've come across that gives honest, practical and uncomplicated advise. Liz's approach to looking after your skin is simple, realistic and achievable. She doesn't suggest complicated skin care routines, dynamic exercise routines we will never stick to, or suggesting we radically change our diet and lifestyle. Instead, Liz recommends what to include - and what to leave out - to make a difference not only to the appearance of our skin, but maybe our health too. It's divided into chapters for each skin type, each age group, what effects skin (such as the sun and the foods we eat) oils and herbs that can be beneficial to the appearance of our skin and recipes and exercise that can be easily followed and only take a few minutes of your time. All chapters are clearly written, beautifully illustrated with photographs and illustrations and advice is easy to follow. It's wonderful book to buy for yourself (I have already read my copy several times!) and it would be a wonderful present to give any person of any age or gender with any skin type as a gift. If you enjoy looking after your skin, if you are at all concerned about your skin and it's condition (even what you are putting onto it or into your body!) this is certainly, absolutely, definately recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treasure Trove of information 15 Mar 2009
By B
The book is exceptional with well researched information to help anyone who cares about their skin and lifestyle.
I love Liz Earle products but the book does not focus on the products from Liz's excellent no nonsense quality skincare but it covers a complete lifestyle approach to caring for our skin. The presentation is beautiful with lovely photos and drawings including Liz's own family photos plus beautiful botanical drawings.

I pre-ordered mine as soon as the option was here as I knew I didn't want to miss the book but the book is beyond my expectations plus I would feel confident purchasing the book for any friend even if they use another brands skincare as Liz's advice is for everyone. I doubt anyone receiving the book wouldn't want to try the products after looking at the radiant photos of Liz and her family! Quality presentation, information and most importantly a book which will be read over and over and not left on the book shelf to read once. The research Liz did for this book is evident and her hard work is clearly shown in the book. Thoroughly recommend this book above all other 'beauty' type books. If anyone is confused about ingredients used in skin care then this book will help to discover why high quality natural ingredients work.

I don't think Liz needs to write another after this as there is so much detail but I 'hope' there will be another some day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book 19 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed Liz Earle's Skin Secret. It's beautifully illustrated and packed with useful information.

What I like about this book is that she doesn't seem to try to sell her own products, but seems genuine in sharing tips about gaining beautiful skin at every stage in life (there are specific sections devoted to beautiful skin at teens, 20s, 30s etc).

Her overall philosophy of beautiful skin is to use natural products, eat well and exercise. The books then gives specific tips on how to achieve that. The style is approachable and full of personal anecdotes. It's refreshing from cosmetics advertising that tries to convince us that one product is the magic cure-all.

Personally I had really bad acne when I bought this book. The section on acne helped me identify the cause and reduced it significantly. The section on natural oils also helped me identify oils to use to moisturise acne-prone skin and reduce acne scars. My face is now almost completely cleared up thanks to this book.

For those who are interested in better skin through the natural way I also recommend 'No more dirty look' which I also wrote a review about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed with facts, suggestions & research 12 Mar 2009
A must-have for any beauty addict, and for those who want to know more from an expert in her field about skincare - all from a balanced, holistic point of view. Based on sound research and expertise gleaned from years in the beauty industry, this author clearly knows her stuff and it shows. She won an MBE for services to the beauty industry, my mother-in-law told me. Impressive stuff. (Gorgeous pictures too, so a great coffee table staple too!) Great for gifting - it covers skincare across all decades from teens to menopause, and way beyond - and also men, which is refreshing to see. I really enjoyed this and find myself coming back to dip in and out again to learn more. A real treat
