A damn good definition of pure industrial, 3 Mar 2004

I went out on a limb buying this disc assuming the rest of the CD would be as good as "Downtime 2", which I had heard before. I must say I am blown away by the depth of this disc! A lot of the lyrics in different songs relate to each other (for example, "Downtime 2" speaks in the past tense of those things spoken of in present in "Stitched"). Overall, I love the vocal imagery on the disc. As I said, "Downtime 2" is awesome, as are both versions of "Skin" and especially the end of "Uplift". "Bottle Rockets", "Skin Graft", and "Flick" are all instrumentals, giving a good shift in sound (Flick serves as the secret hiding spot for the remix of "Skin" called "Dead Skin"). Do yourself a favor and pick up this album.

Well, when this cd came out years ago 16volt were still in Portland Or. and I had the wounderful oppurtounity to see them live on many occassions. This is their best cd and if you even have a remote interest in classic coldwave you owe it to yourself to check it out. The wounderful mix of Organic guitars and drums with electronics is inspiring, check out "downtime 2" and the "skin" remix. The one down side to this album is Erics simplistic lyrics, which are typical of the era(ie. Big words and no real meaning), this aside it is a worthwhile endevor.

Skin, 16volt's second album, is a must have for fans of classic coldwave / industrial. guitar and electronics are fused together seamlessly, fans of twitch-era ministry will feel right at home. though some of the tracks have a bit too much grinding guitar, the tracks are all very melodic and well written. a very good album from one of the pioneers of industrial rock
