If you wan tot play AD+D for the first time get this and combat and tactics the rules are amazing these 2 books have everything the the PHB except saving throws which are on the DM's screen Charactor Points are realy cool - they give you tonnes more options

This is a great catch all book especially if you don't have the funds for all The Complete Handbooks(or think they are dated). This book holds all the information you need to create lasting unique characters of any type of power. The rules for each class and race allows you to customize your character much better than you were allowed before. A must for every DM.

If you like playing AD&D and want to get away from the plain old fighter, why not make a pugilist, who fights with martial arts better blind than seeing! Or making a priest who can fight with arquebuses with a +5 proficiency! This book is all you need to shape the AD&D world to your liking.
