5.0 out of 5 stars A Statement From The Heart, 29 Dec 2011

This review is from: Skiffle: The Roots of UK Rock (Hardcover)
Back in 1958 when the skiffle craze was rolling over England, a country vicar wrote a book about it. He was an entusiastic fan of jazz and skiffle, and you can feel that while you are reading. His aproach to the subject is les factual than other book on similar subjects. It is not the surface of skiffle, but the spirit of skiffle that is the main subject. After all - he is a priest. But from a 1950's point of view one of the more liberated. Talking about his love for popular music and dancing, and how he enjoys listening to records with his son. A happy fellow that likes happy music. I just love that book. Maby you won't get as much ecsact information as from related books, but you will sure have a good time reading. And one more thing: other books are written later, looking back. This was witten during the thing, and therefore it is a product of the same time. And by the way: there is a foreword written by Lonnie Donegan!
