Product Description

Product Description

Multi-award winning guitarist-composer Antonio Forcione is launching his new album Sketches of Africa in summer 2012. This album sees Antonio locking his creative focus onto one place. Sketches of Africa is inspired by his recent tours through the continent. It showcases his compositions in collaboration with local musicians who, together, evoke a joyous, spiritually beguiling homage to a continent still going through immense change. His first album in 5 years, Sketches of Africa is eagerly awaited. Collaborating with Antonio on this album, along with his successful quartet artists, are such greats as Seckou Keita (Senegal), Chiwoniso Maraire (Zim), Juldeh Camara (Gambia), Zamo Mbutho (SA). All tracks composed, arranged and produced by Antonio Forcione. Co-produced with the legendary Chris Kimsey. 'Forcione plays un-stringed parts of the guitar other players can't hope to reach.' - The Independent 'One of the great acoustic guitarists' - The Guardian 'I was amazed at his musicianship.. If you've not seen him play before, then get along. He is unique. You'll probably see me there' - Bill Bailey

A delightful incorporation of African rhythms, full of different instruments and very easy relaxed listening. Congratulations are due to Antonio Forcione

Sketches of Africa is lighter than "Touch Wood" but as enjoyable. Its a happy CD only down side its too short ! When its grey and dull outside spin this it will brighten up your day.

I have all of Antonios cd 's and have seen him love several times but this album is not his best. Sorry to say this but we have had to wait a long time for this album and at best it is boring! It starts off ok but then goes down hill fast! Lets hope he gets it back with Naim and returns to his usual form soon.

A beautiful jazz mural in Sketches of Africa 26 Sept. 2012
By David Pena - Published on Amazon.com
Always been a jazz fan for some time, the first time I experienced Antonio Forcione was on you tube in a video done with Felix Pastorius, son of the late bassist Jaco Pastorius. Antonio and Felix were doing a duet I was floored. I went on to purchase quite a few of Antonio's albums, each one was an evolution in his own career different sounds, riffs, that were just awe inspiring filled with enthusiasm for music and life Sketches of Africa is a welcomed new addition to his ever expanding musical career, evoking, a celebration of culture and life each tune thought provoking almost as if watching an artist paint a mural musically its beautiful in its own right, never short on enthusiasm another superb release for an ever evolving artist and his journey through life
Beautiful guitar work, but not African. 21 Sept. 2014
By Terry O' - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Great guitar work, but definitely Western impressions of Africa. Very little Africa influence on his playing but wonderful tunes nonetheless.
