I would like to know if the nickname Skeeter has got a meaning. I presume that from the reading of this outstanding book, but as a non native English speaker (and nothing on dictionaries), I would appreciate any help you could give on this.
I think also that it is a clever and witty play on words. When you use the title used for all the white ladies 'Miss' and put it with Skeeter, Miss Skeeter, the name sounds even closer to mosquito. She is after all like a mosquito in the way in which, unnoticed, she gets under the skin of the biggoted community.
There was a british helicopter called the Skeeter named after an informal word for a mosquito. I am pretty sure it mentions where she gets her name from in the book - as the above poster wrote it's because she was thin etc and perhaps resembled one.
