Size 5s fit perfectly, the subtle sparklies by the laces are cute, the extra pair of black laces an unexpected surprise.
So glad i did, they are the most comfortable walking shoe i have ever worn.Its like walking on air.
Also buying them through Amazon they arrive quickly and packed really well, for what they are - they are a bargain.

How it works

Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique, soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives, such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back, and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps. Due to this unconventional matter of walking, we suggest that you moderate your walking routine in Shape Ups for the first week or two (25 to 45 minutes per day), depending on your level of fitness. As you continue to wear Shape Ups, your body will adjust to this new method of walking. You will find it easy and comfortable while still enjoying the strengthening and cardiovascular benefits.

Shape up while you stand

Conventional footwear does not provide proper support or aide in correct posture for long periods of standing. With Shape Ups, the simulation of soft ground will ease the stress on your joints, promote correct posture, and strengthen selected muscles as you naturally work to keep your centre of balance. To properly stand in your Shape Ups, stand upright and find your center of balance with your feet parallel and hip-distance apart.

Shape up while you walk

To walk correctly in Shape Ups, step forward with the middle section of your heel hitting the ground first. This should give you the feeling of walking on soft ground. Roll forward onto the ball of your food and then the flat part of your toes. Your stance should not be as wide as you walk. Your front foot should still be under your body, giving you a natural and comfortable step. This rhythmic and easy gait will help you maintain your balance. For maximum benefit, strike heel first. Then roll forward.

Get in the routine

As you walk in Shape Ups, be aware of the position of your shoes and ankles. Your ankles should not roll or bend inward, but remain parallel. The position of your back and neck should be straight. Do not look down; look ahead to where you are going. This will keep your posture straight, resulting in tightening of your back and stomach muscles, and the lengthening of your body into a leaner line. Exaggerated movements are part of some walking routines (such as knee raises), but with Shape Ups, your movements should be fluid and smooth. While a natural pace is best for everyday walking, we suggest you switch up your gait -- slowing down to focus on your steps, or kicking it up a notch to get your blood flowing.

    I couldn't wait for them to arrive & I wasn't disappointed! They look great in black suede & the bulky sole is not that obvious. I was a bit apprehensive wearing them out for the first time on the school run but no one commented so they can't have looked odd! They are incredibly comfy! I bought a size 5 (I can be a 5 1/2 or even 6 in fashion shoes) and they fit like a glove! The extra height in the heel instantly made my legs look longer & slimmer so that alone was worth the £80! I walk alot anyway and generally at quite a pace. I didn't notice any immediate muscle ache etc. but after a while I definitely felt something in the buttocks! I found them instantly easy to walk in. I recently had an operation on my knee and I feel less strain in that area when wearing the Shape Ups. I also feel less strain in my feet after a long walk which used to ache using my usual trainers. Would thoroughly recommend!!

    I have just bought these shoes and I love them. They are a really good looking pair of trainers in mostly black suede leather and a nice touch is that they have very small sparkly dots at each lace hole.( Very subtle though) They come with white laces installed and you get a pair of black ones tucked inside the shoes.

    They are a really good fit. I normally take a six but have noticed that with cheaper trainers I have sometimes been having to take a 7 but these size sixes fit me perfectly. No heel rubbing right from the beginning. Excellent!

    They are really easy to walk with and you don't feel at all just feels natural. My legs definitely feel more tired after walking in them, just as if you had been walking in sand but you don't have that slow motion effect that you get if you are really walking in sand.

    I have been walking my dogs 2-3 times a day in them and I do feel more tired in the evening and sleeping well. I have not had any muscle aches and pains but am very used to walking and have built the time up which it recommends in the booklet.

    Finally, the best thing is that these shoes give me an extra two inches in height which is terrific for a 5'4" shortie. I am walking tall and feel good in these shoes. They remind me a bit of my old cork soled platform heels which I wore in the 70s.

    I don't know if I will lose any weight but the fact I seem to be expending more energy makes me think that I may well do.

    Would thoroughly recommend.

    Id been hearing about these types of shoes for some time and wondered if they really do work. i heard from a relative that they had tried MTB shoes,that work the leg muscles, she said they were great and she could feel the muscles working. I looked online for MTBs but they were far too expensive for me so i looked up other makes of shoes to work the leg muscles. I plumped for the Sketchers Shape Ups Metabolise. Still alot of money, but i took a chance. It paid off... I put the shoes on as soon as they arrived today and walked to the local shop 1/4mile away and I can feel the Glutes, Hamstrings and Calves working already, especially when walking up hill. I also got them to help with a knee problem i aquired from running. I needed to stretch my hamstrings and strengthen my Quads and improve my balance. I think these will really help because I couldnt walk up stairs without twinges in my knee but I walked up a set of stairs today with them on and felt no twinge at all. I am truly impressed so far. they dont take too long to get used to and time will show if these will help my knee but I can already feel the leg muscles working well.

    Thank you Skechers for creating the most comfortable trainer I have ever worn so far.
    It takes a few days to get used to them but they are really comfortable you will just love them after 2 min. I have them in navy and white and match them according to what I wear so you can be fashionable in trainers as well.
    You must use them regularly to gain the benefits advertised otherwise they are just normal shoes.

    I've been using these shoes for the last 4 weeks and they've been a god-send! I have really weak knees and they've helped me to start walking long distances- up to an hour and a half a day to and from work. I'm now much more conscious of how and where to balance my weight which in turn has made running so much easier. I think that at this rate, I'll be able to run my first 10km race by the end of the summer-because of my knee issues I last ran a 10km race in 2006. These shoes are also great for doing lower body exercises that would normally butcher my knees- like squats and lunges. My only issue with these shoes is (a)they provide nominal support for the ankles (b)they are quite heavy- heavier than the MBTs. On the plus side- they're half the price of MBTs and (only a little) less ugly!

    I bought these shoes as they proclaim that they take the pressure off your joints. They probably do but more in an less impact on your knees when walking on pavements, but because of the emphasis that you need to put on the front of your feet when walking in them, they actually hurt my arthritic feet more than normal trainers. For this reason I had to return them and wouldn't reccomend them to anyone who has trouble with the balls of their feet.

    All this aside, the time I took trying them out, they do seem to do what they say on the box. I walked around the house in them in the manner described in the instructions and found that they were indeed making my lower leg, thigh and buttock muscles do more work as well as making me assume correct posture. I think that if I had been able to use them they would have been fantastic. My partner Ian tried them briefly and decided that he would probably purchase a pair himself in the near future.
