This book has a lot of sensible guidelines and tips to getting started and is encouraging for the older person new to skating. It introduces you to the world of skating and gives you a respect for something which has earned it's place as a sport and bonifide leisure activity. There is some repetition in the 2nd book 'Skateboarding: Book of Tricks' but it seems necessary as you may go straight for the 2nd book.

This book is alright, I would say. It's great for describing the tricks you need to do and showing it in parts, but the pictures are taken from a distance on most of them, so you sorta have to squint at the pictures to see precisely how to do it. Also, I wouldn't say the explanation (in words) of how to do it is informative enough. I mean, there are a lot of parts to the written explanation which are good and useful, but other parts you're just like "what?" and "is this relevant to what I need to know?"

So to sum up, I'm rating it 3 star because it's, as said in the title, a useful book, but there are parts which could be much better

Ok, first up this is an American book and I'd just like to say the distrubuters of this publication are fantastic and I had absolutley NO PROBLEMS with them, nor the delivery which they managed imbeccably.
The book itself is good and very informative. It has plenty of advice and tips from the top skaters in the US. The photos show in great detail how to start up and get rolling and try out the tricks. If you need some inspiration to get started I recommend you read Boardfree about an English guy, David Cornthwaite, who skated ACROSS Austrailia!
This book will get you started and guide your way.

This book is very good if you are interested in skateboarding. It teaches you the basics and some more complicated tricks. It also has an interesting look at the invention of skateboarding and it's rise to the popular extream sport that it is nowadays. This book is a must for any skateboarder looking to improve his skills and make his way to the top of pro skating.
