Synopsis

Fear grips London as dozens of clubbers die after taking a sinister new drug. But that's only the beginning. 48 hours later, the dead clubbers wake up - and it's open season on the living, who are butchered for their blood. Soon, London gives a name to its terror: Vampires. Jake Lawton, bitter and betrayed after the Iraq War, finds himself fighting another battle - against the growing army of immortal hunters and their human cohorts. Lawton joins forces with the journalist who brought about his downfall and the dealer tricked into distributing the drug. And together they take on the spineless authorities, the ruthless cohorts, and the hungry dead. But the vampire plague unleashed in London is nothing to what lurks beneath the streets - Waiting to be fed ...Waiting to be resurrected ...Waiting to reign again over a city of human slaves ...

Very interesting 8 May 2009
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed this very much. Emson puts an interesting spin on the possible starting point of the vampire mythos. The writing is punchy and could have used a little polishing - I imagine he'll improve with in later books. The publishers are a new company and unfortunately there are quite a few grammatical/spelling errors. I noticed at least 3 and that kind of thing drives me mad, but I'm probably just picky. The characters are extremely believable, which is something I look for in a novel, and I felt for them a great deal.

And it gave me nightmares, which is always a compliment for a horror novel.

pleasant surprise! 19 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
Picked this up on the off chance and it was a nice surprise! An interesting re-exploration of the vampire myth (lots of familiar stuff, but some new elements too), weaving in the distribution of illicit tablets as the initial propogation... It was good to read something set in London...felt familiar! The writing is crisp and succinct. Good descriptive style...no holding back on chases, tension and a bit of the necessary horror. I would recommend and also would purposefully navigate towards another book by Emson based upon this.

What a brilliant scary Vampire story! One of the best books in this genre I have ever read! Mobs of fast agressive vampires are openly on the loose in modern London growing more and more confident and unstoppable on the streets, the buses, Leicester Square, Embankment, New Cross, a great well written, well paced, story!

a great twist and re telling of a classic idea, Vampires in the London club and drug scene, but also attacking passengers on the bus and people in the cinema with the Police being unable to stop them and a giant conspiracy behind the scenes dating back to ancient Babylon and Alexander the Great.
