Many watch makers these days seem to subscribe to the mantra 'more is more' rather than the better known mantra 'less is more'. So when I spotted this simple and elegant watch I was pleasantly surprised, I'd almost given up on finding such a watch.
Having received the watch, I have to say it has more than lived up to expectations. It has a modernist/functional look with clean lines. The case itself is very slim, no thicker than the strap at its deepest point. Because of this, and the strap attachment method, the case flows into the strap rather than jutting out from it.
I'm rather fussy about design, I'd rather go without than make do. This Danish watch ticks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned.

I first saw this brand (Skagen)in John Lewis. They are all great looking watches. This particular model fulfils my needs for a stylish, simple, slimline watch with a leather strap. It has classic looks with a twist, the second hand is a small dial just below centre. The watch doesn't feature a date counter, so if that is important - look elsewhere in the Skagen range. It sits beautifully on the wrist, is light, with a clear easy to read face. Equally importantly it looks great, belying it's very easonable price, particularly here on amazon.

This is the first complaint I have ever posted on any website but felt that everybody should understand the service being provided by Skagen Designs UK before purchasing one of there products. The actual watch is lovely, the issue that I have is with the Customer Service department and the terms of the warranty.
I was given this watch as a birthday present on the 11th December 2011, I noticed the first time that I wore the watch that it lost time and as the battery is not covered under the warranty, I therefore decided to replace the battery, after the battery was changed the watch continued to lose time. I contacted Skagen customer service by email and they advised me to return the watch with the warranty certificate (at my cost) and they would be in touch if there were any costs to pay (????).
They sent me an email today saying that the repair cost is £10 as I have invalidated the warranty by replacing the battery (something that is not covered under the warranty). When I asked them what the £10 was for the told me that this was to cover transport costs and that if I paid this amount, in good faith they would replace the watch at no extra cost. I was also warned that if I replaced the battery in future then I would have to bear the total cost of repairs.
I have never heard of any other watch manufacture that invalidates the warranty if you replace the battery (a consumable item), this means that if you wish to keep the warranty valid on your watch you can only get the battery replaced by returning to Skagen and paying for the battery to be replaced by them.... Very well made super slim watch, i looked for a long time to find a slim watch, of all the brands i looked at Skagen where my favourite they are not stocked in many shops and when I have seen them they have been £120 t0 £150 so Amazon is a good place to buy.
If you are looking for a smart different and light watch you can't go wrong, the only down side is the watch movement is made in china (not really a problem as it has proved very reliable and accurate)
I Highly recommend this fantastic watch it would make a great present and looks far more expensive than its low price tag of £70 - £80 (if you shop around online)

Just bought this watch as a present for myself. It arrived via free delivery within a day or two, and is smartly presented in a classy white slip box. The watch itself sits within the box on a small white 'pillow' - classic Skagen.
The face is protected with a clear label, and a small plastic clip prevents the watch battery being used until you are ready for it.
The watch itself is fantastic. A classic, polished chrome bevel and a simple [but elegantly tidy] looking face. The second hand is represented by the smaller dial within the face, and the watch is very slim with a 'light to medium' weight.
I should mention the watch strap...classic, smooth brown leather with a slight texture to it. There is a neat line of double stitching mid-line that just sets it off.
I'd love all of my watches to have this strap!
This strap alone would cost you around £20 or more.
This would make a great Birthday or Xmas present or, as in my case, a treat for myself. You'd probably not want to wear it for everyday use unless you're an office worker, but as a dress watch it is ideal
