For Hallmark you should normally see in the small print that 'all solo tracks are by the original artists' - that DONT mean to say that they are the "original recordings though y`all! Even worse, Hallmark does normally say that tracks by 'groups may not contain more than 1 of the original members' - now in a true case involving 'Mott The Hoople', the 'original' member happened to be a guy who was a 'session musician' who played harmonica or summat on just "1 track only"! Also Ian Hunter [Mott`s lead singer] also said that MTH never even recorded half the songs on this particular compilation!!!
Can it get worse......Yup! Though mainly on the Soul side y`all; the 'labels' 'Pegasus' & 'Prism' dont let you know that the tracks are ven re-recorded at all! You just find out when you get home & sit down for, what you think might be a good old music session!
On the 'Northern' Soul side watch out for anything produced by the once excellent D.J. Ian Levine. He gets ex-Motown, Northern stars way past their prime [or used to..] to re-record their hits to his drum & bass rubbish mainly on his own 'Motor City' label & its absolutely Awful guys!!! [I feel I must add here that a small percentage of people who have followed some of these stars all their life will still like them under Levine - thats devotion I suppose - but we`re not talkin Diana Ross y`all!]
So watch out for the cheapies & always keep your receipt: HALLMARK/K-TEL/PEGASUS/PRISM/MOTOR CITY OR ANYTHING PRODUCED BY IAN LEVINE ON THE SOUL-SIDE! Take Care Y`All......

This album was very disappointing. It is sung by a band who do no justice to such iconic music.I would rate this as a poor purchase on my part!!!!
I really cant rate this album poorly enough, and wish i had never bought it! This music should be left to the original masters such as Madness and the Specials.

I can understand people being disappointed that these are not original recordings, but it is pretty clear on the cover. Plus it's on Hallmark, and less than [] quid at the time of writing. 'The Moonstompers' is written across the top of the artwork, and it also says 'Moonstompers -(Artist)' in the text. Couldn't be much clearer really.....!
