Product Description

The British read French books and watch French films, they consume French food and wine, and they also choose to drive French cars. By common consent, of all these Gallic vehicles none is more representative of the French character than the Deux Chevaux. 12 years in design and development and 41 years in manufacture, its lifespan covered well over half a century, making it one of the longest-running motoring success stories of all time. Yet at its first appearance at the Paris motor show in 1948 it was dismissed by most motoring journalists and commentators as a commercial disaster - but not by the buying public. Eventually, almost seven million of its various versions and derivatives were built. Today, 10 years after its manufacture ceased, it is still as popular as ever.

This book is mainly about the history of the 2CV from conception to death. It is an interesting read. It has loads of old pictures; it doesn't have a many pictures on the modern 2CV which is what I was looking for. However, after reading this book I learnt a lot more background to the 2CV and I feel that it is worth the money for a hardened 2CV fan.

Great high level story of the 2CV 6 Oct 2009
By Kristine Hale - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am the delighted owner of a 1967 Deux Chevaux living in Utah. Being that this isn't a common car around here, I immediately sought out all of the information that I could about it. Besides the How to Restore Citroen 2CV (Enthusiast?s Restoration Manuals) and the Citroen 2 Cylinder, 2CV Ami and Dyane 1967-90 Owner's Workshop Manual (Service & repair manuals), this book is the absolute must for a 2CV owner or lover. It is a great overview of the car from its inception to its untimely death in 1990. Full of large pictures, fun facts and the full story of this little car, this book will not disappoint anyone looking for more information on the tin snail. Beyond that, this book also includes information about the 2CV derivatives like the Mehari.

There aren't a lot of books out on the market on 2CV's so if you are looking for information you were probably likely to pick up this book anyway, but even if it weren't one of the few, I would highly recommend this one.

2CV.... Clearly 10 Oct 2006
By John P. Morgan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I had a 1967 Citroen 2CV6 Charleston at one time. Oh, I loved that car. Tears are filling up in my eyes just thinking about it. It was a beautiful two tone gray and every morning before I would take it for its daily "waddle" I would just run my hands over it...caressing it like a lover would with their beloved...

But, unfortunately my beautiful car was taken from me. There was a bit of a screwup down at customs. They told me that I had imported my "baby" illegally. Turns out I was scammed by a smooth talking exporter. I cried when I found out what my Citroen's fate was to be; death by crusher. I watched helplessly as it went up a long, steep ramp and then dropped into a crusher and killed instantly.

My heart sank and I've never been the same since.

I got this book because it is my intention to own another one of these great cars again but this time I will do it legally and properly. Sometimes I just sit there and I look at the pictures repeating a silent mantra of "Yes...Yes...Yes..."

Oh, I miss my duck...

I gotta go now...I've got something in my eye.
