Product Description

CD Description

The latest in Ace Records series of limited edition CD releases features another fabulous collection of hot-rockin , foot-stompin , feel-good instrumentals from drum maestro Sandy Nelson. The CD has been compiled and annotated by Dave Burke and Clive Poole of Pipeline magazine. These guys know exactly what instrumental fans want... Just about all the tracks are new to CD and are cherry-picked from ten LPs recorded between 1965 and 1969, when Nelson was at the height of his powers. Selections include many classic good-time anthems and the punch and vigour Nelson brings to them is unmatched. There is no doubt that his good taste and undoubted love of soul music shines through, particularly when he steams through favourites such as Wilson Pickett's Mustang Sally and then stomps all over Stevie Wonder's Nothing s Too Good For My Baby . There s more Detroit magic with the Temptations Ain't Too Proud To Beg and the Supremes My World Is Empty Without You , frat party favourites Hanky Panky and Hang On Sloopy , surfing classics Pipeline , Let s Go Trippin and Richie Podolor's mesmerising eastern-flavoured surfer Casbah , the quirky and irresistible Sabre Dance , as well as the storming, little-known 45rpm version of Peter Gunn .

I thought Sandy Nelson's music was best from 1965 on even though I like every album he has recorded. But this one is very hard to beat.

Not only did mans journey into space peak between 1969 and 1972 during which the 12 (only what ? 8 left alive) men who walked on the moon did their stuff : music also peaked during those years. The rest is just winding down and fiddling about. 15 1 hour ago
