4.0 out of 5 stars Get moving not dieting! 16 Aug 2012
By RSM TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Surprisingly, since it seems to be endorsed, or at the very least affiliated in some way with the TOWIE set and other shallow celebs, this book actually contains quite a lot of common sense. Such as avoiding too many heavily processed foods and carbohydrates, whilst recognising that fat isn't automatically unhealthy. Portion control and keeping active are emphasised over dieting or calorie counting. I've yet to try some of the quirkier tips (such as cold baths first thing in the morning to boost the metabolism), but as a scientist I was quite impressed that this book contains a lot of fairly sensible suggestions. Will report back in a few months to see how many of the tips made an impact.

4.0 out of 5 stars This one really does work! 3 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback
This book goes against most of the received wisdoms about diet that have been around and failed for decades! It confirms what I have always believed - that no-one needs breakfast and, far from being the most important meal of the day (which is contrary to nature), it should be avoided. The author, who is a sports scientist, dispels a lot of myths about food types and exposes the tricks of the food industry. It's also fun to read, which is important. And unless you are very overweight you don't need to follow everything to the letter - like cold baths! When I was at my skinniest I never had breakfast and always drank black coffee. I only put weight on when I went on diets! Within three weeks of reverting to this common sense and scientifically-explained regime I was back to 'skinny'. So buy this book, ditch the lattes and forget breakfast.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money 1 Jun 2012
By Julybee
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I didn't believe those reviewers that complained that this book is potentially dangerous. That is until I read it. Look, it's not going to hurt a fat old bird like me. Stripped of its nonsense it's just the old advice to eat fewer carbs and take more exercise. I needn't have paid 4.99 to read that. But it's obviously aimed at teenage girls (it's title is a big clue, as is the language used inside . AND, it even refers to "your parents" in a few places). And it feeds into their insecurities and obsessive behaviours: "2 cups of black coffee, no sugar is slimming? How about 10 cups a day?" "One cold bath a day? How much could I lose with two cold baths a day?" "Blowing up balloons? Easy, I could do this for hours!" I speak as a mother, and as a counsellor of young women.
I'll tell you what it basically says, then you needn't waste your money:
Have two cups of black coffee, no sugar, at breakfast time
Have a cold bath
Do 45 minutes of exercise
Mid-morning have your breakfast.
Cut down your carbs
Do more exercise, including weight-lifting (even women - good advice) and walking, and "blowing up balloons" - pretending, see!?
Have 2-4 cups green tea a day

For detailed advice on exercise and a low carb diet you will need to surf the internet. Which doesn't take very long.
